Prince William County Public Schools (PWCS) will break ground on a new elementary school in the Potomac Shores area this fall, aiming to alleviate severe overcrowding in the Dumfries area.

The groundbreaking ceremony for the new Potomac Shores Elementary School is scheduled for Monday, September 8 at 10 a.m., and will take place at 1720 Thoroughgood Drive. School Board members have been invited to attend.

The Manassas City Council voted Monday night to delay a decision on a controversial proposal to raise council and mayoral salaries, setting a new vote for September 8 after a tense public hearing and divided council discussion.

DUMFRIES, Va. – The Dumfries Town Council reversed course and voted unanimously to approve a conditional use permit (CUP) that will allow a local business to host cultural, entertainment, and community events on its property along Washington Street.

The business, Outdoor Showplace, is located at 17715 Washington Street, directly across from Dumfries Town Hall. Known as the region’s largest fully custom landscape showroom, the two-acre property displays outdoor kitchens, fire pits, patios, water features, and more—giving customers the chance to walk through and experience sample backyard designs in a real-life setting.

DC South Asian Arts Council Inc in Collaboration with Embassy of India Presents Sarod Quintet- Three Generations, One legacy: Keeping India’s ethos of traditions and legacies alive, Three Generation Quintet represents the 6th, 7th and 8th generation of an unbroken chain of musicians coming together on stage and performing together. The concert will feature Sarod Grand Master Amjad Ali Khan and his sons Amaan Ali Bangash and Ayaan Ali Bangash on Sarods. They are joined by Ayaan’s 13 year old Twins Zohaan and Abeer.

NOKESVILLE, Va. – A 22-year-old woman from Springfield died Monday afternoon after a two-vehicle crash in Nokesville, according to the Prince William County Police Department.

The crash happened at 12:53 p.m. on July 28 at the intersection of Owls Nest Road and Vint Hill Road. Investigators say Cassandra Ann Signet was driving a 2016 Jeep Renegade and attempted to turn left onto westbound Vint Hill Road when her vehicle crossed into the path of an oncoming 2019 International HV507 truck.


Fredericksburg

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – Four standout businesses were honored with the 2025 We Mean Business Awards at the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce’s July 25 Member Meeting, recognizing their efforts to innovate, lead, and support the local community.

A 39-year-old man was found dead inside a tent late Friday night near the 8400 block of Sudley Road, near Manassas. Prince William County Police say the man was unconscious in a wooded area when first responders arrived. He was pronounced dead on the scene. There were no signs of foul play, and his body has been taken to the Medical Examiner’s Office for an autopsy.

This incident leads the July 28 Prince William County Police blotter, which also includes multiple reports of malicious wounding, assaults, robberies, and arrests across the Manassas and Woodbridge areas.


Stafford

STAFFORD, Va. – A 36-year-old man from Front Royal is still hospitalized with life-threatening injuries following a motorcycle crash on Garrisonville Road. The July 26 crash occurred near Furnace Road and is believed to have been caused by excessive speed. The Sheriff’s Office said multiple witnesses helped provide critical information at the scene, and the investigation remains ongoing.
