A new Books-A-Million store is coming to Stafford Marketplace, marking the return of a major bookstore to the busy Garrisonville Road shopping center.

The new store will open in the former Party City space, covering about 13,000 square feet, next to where a larger Borders Books & Music once operated before the chain closed its doors nationwide more than a decade ago.


Manassas Park

Registration is now open for the 4th Annual Halloween Houses O’ Lights contest, a community tradition that invites residents to showcase their creativity with festive Halloween decorations.

Organizers are calling on residents of all housing types—single-family homes, townhouses, condos, and apartments—to light up their yards, balconies, porches, and windows in celebration of the spooky season. Registration is free and open until 11:59 p.m. on October 15, 2025.


Manassas Park

MANASSAS PARK, Va. — Manassas Park Police say they seized more than 30 illegal gaming machines during coordinated raids Thursday at multiple businesses across the city.

Detectives executed eight search warrants on October 9, 2025, after an investigation into illegal gambling operations that began with two citizen complaints earlier this year. Police say surveillance at several establishments confirmed the use of the machines, which resembled arcade-style devices offering cash or prize payouts.


Police Blotter

A burglary occurred at the Mobil Gas service station on Gideon Dr in Woodbridge. Early on October 8, around 2:53 AM, an unknown man broke into the business by prying open a rear door. Once inside, he stole money from an ATM and a cash register, along with other merchandise, before fleeing on foot.

The incident was discovered later that morning, prompting a police response. The suspect is described as a male wearing a gray hooded sweatshirt, sweatpants, white socks, dark-colored slides, gloves, and carrying a backpack.


Police Blotter

A robbery occurred on Douglas Drive on October 8, where a victim reported being knocked down and having her purse stolen by a male suspect. The suspect was described as a black male in his twenties, wearing a black hoodie and having puffy hair.

In another incident, a driver was arrested for DUI at Heflin’s Garage on October 7. The driver, found with two open cans of beer, was also wanted for violating a protective order. He was charged with multiple offenses and held without bond.


Prince William

Prince William County leaders cut the ribbon Wednesday morning on the Regional Crisis Receiving Center (CRC) — a long-anticipated mental health facility designed to give residents immediate access to behavioral health care, day or night.

Governor Glenn Youngkin joined local officials, state partners, and community advocates in Woodbridge for the ceremony outside the newly renovated building on Worth Avenue, near Potomac Mills. The governor, who previously toured the site in May 2023, called the opening “one of the most major milestones in the transformation of behavioral health, not just in the Commonwealth, but across the nation.”


Fredericksburg

Facing public criticism over travel spending, payroll questions, and chaotic school bus delays, the Fredericksburg City School Board says it plans to rebuild trust and improve transparency through a December workshop focused on ethics, teamwork, and accountability.
