Stafford County is gearing up for a magical evening to kick off the holiday season with its annual Tree Lighting Event, scheduled for Friday, December 6, 2024, at the Stafford County Government Center, 1300 Courthouse Road. Beginning at 6 p.m., the event promises various performances, activities, and surprises for the whole family.

Attendees will be treated to holiday music from local choirs and bands, showcasing the talents of Stafford’s youth and community groups. For art enthusiasts, artisans and crafters will offer unique holiday-themed creations.

We all want to live in a community that is fun, safe, and, at its core, clean. However, it’s easier said than done.

Maintaining an inviting, enjoyable space has challenges, from monetary expenses to valuable time and effort. Prince William County has been attempting to address the biggest environmental culprit – litter. To combat this, the county has implemented additional litter crews for several roadways, especially ones regularly littered. These crews operate on a consistent schedule. However, this doesn’t mark the end of their efforts – meet Trashy!

I-66 Express Donates $10K to NVFS Hunger Center

In time for Thanksgiving and the rest of the 2024 holiday season, I-66 Express Mobility Partners (I-66 EMP), builder and operator of the 66 Express Outside the Beltway, recently provided a donation of $10,000 to support the Hunger Resource Center (HRC) of Northern Virginia Family Service (NVFS).

Headquartered at NVFS’s SERVE campus in Manassas, the HRC provides approximately 400 families from around Prince William County with emergency food assistance, nutrition information, and helpful strategies for buying healthy food on a budget.

Men Charged After Shots Fired in Woodbridge

Final Suspect Charged in Tacketts Mill Robbery

On November 24, a suspect was arrested in connection with an attempted robbery at a McDonald’s near Woodbridge on September 24. Two other suspects were arrested earlier in November.

Prince William County School Board Approves 2025-2026 Calendar

The Board approved Option A, which has students starting school on Aug. 19 and finishing on June 12. Teacher workdays in this option begin on Aug. 11 and all major holidays — including Labor Day, Thanksgiving, Rosh Hashanah, Yom Kippur, Presidents Day and Memorial Day, to name a few — will be observed.

According to a PWCS news release on Nov. 20, the first day of school may be moved to Aug. 18 depending on the Board’s decision in January to revise its own policy to observe Eid al-Adha — one of the major holidays in Islam — which falls on May 26 and May 27 in 2026. PWCS already observes Eid al-Fitr, the other official Islamic holiday.
