Enforcing new transgender school policies could be a bumpy road in VA

Virignia Gov. Glenn Youngkin and Stafford County Schools Superintendent Dr. Thomas Taylor.

Although the Virginia Department of Education unveiled new guidelines on transgender issues they say give power back to parents, enforcing those rules in school districts could be a bumpy road.

In a shift away from the previous administration, the new guidelines direct schools to inform parents before they offer counseling services related to gender and provide parents with the opportunity to object. The schools are asked to designate a counselor to speak with both the parents and the student if requested by the parents.

Three-day traffic closure on Route 1 south in Stafford starts Tuesday

A short section of Route 1 southbound in Stafford County will be closed overnight on the evenings of Tuesday, October 25, and Wednesday, October 26. Crews are working to widen the road’s shoulders.

BREAKING: 1,000 students out sick at Stafford High School

About 1,000 students at Stafford High School fell ill. According to Stafford County Public Schools spokeswoman Sandra Osborn, the students are out sick with absent with flu-like/gastrointestinal symptoms.

Town residents told to go to wrong polling places, county scrambles to fix

Residents in all four of Prince William County’s towns received incorrect election notices telling them to vote at the wrong polling station. Prince William County General Voter Registrar Eric Olsen said a contractor sent the incorrect notices to about 5,300 residents in Dumfries, Haymarket, Occoquan, and Quantico.
