Virginia State Parks: “Construction is complete on Sky Meadows State Park’s Lost Mountain Trail, bringing it up to sustainability standards. The 2.2-mile trail, designed for hikers and equestrians, is one of six located in the park’s 248-acre Lost Mountain area, which opened to the public in the early ‘90s.”
“Due to several factors, including regular traffic and improper drainage, Lost Mountain Trail was suffering from significant erosion, making it difficult to traverse. Sky Meadows hired Ironwood Outdoors to address the issue, the third project at the park for the full-service trail building company since 2018.”
Several homes in Manassas and Manassas Park were decked out for the holidays, as both cities held respective contests to see who had the most festive home.
Judges awarded the house at 9323 Laurie Court in Manassas Park as the “best citywide” house.

Prince William County Public Schools: “Students in C. D. Hylton High School’s Center for International Studies & Languages (CISL) program hosted a meal-packing event with Rise Against Hunger in which Hylton High students, parents, and community member volunteers packed more than 10,000 meals for people in need. Hylton High will send the meals to families and children in need across the world in schools and hospitals.”
“Rise Against Hunger is an international hunger relief non-profit organization that coordinates the packaging and distribution of food to people and families who need them the most across the globe. The organization’s mission is to create a world in which hunger doesn’t exist and Hylton students took the step to help make that mission possible. More than 100 students, parents, and volunteers came out to support the cause.
“The 2nd annual Holiday Walk of Lights is back this year and brighter than ever! Experience the magic of the holiday season,” writes Prince William County Parks and Recreation.

At Leesylvania State Park in Woodbridge, “Journey back in time on the Lee’s Woods Trail to discover hundreds of years of human history. Follow a range or volunteer on this guided hike to learn about the people, places, and events that make Leesylvania State Park unique. Expect a moderate walk of about 2 miles. The trail is not stroller-friendly. Meet at the trailhead for the Lee’s Woods Trail. Wear comfortable shoes and don’t forget a reusable water bottle! Children’s Discovery Hike at 11:30 am and 2:30 pm – Potomac Trail. Families join us on an nature adventure through our most popular trail. We will have binoculars, magnifying glasses, bug catching tools and more gear to help children connect to nature and discovery the fun of being outdoors. “The trail is stroller friendly. Please meet at the visitor center and wear comfortable shoes and and don’t forget a reusable water bottle!”
At Widewater State Park in Stafford County, “Begin your new year journey with a Ranger-led hike on Holly Marsh Trail! Starting at the Visitor’s Center, a Ranger will talk to your group about the local wildlife and their winter habitats while guiding you through the forest, past wetlands, and down to the Potomac River; and back again! The hike is 1.8 miles round-trip and the trail is easy-going for children and adults. Be sure to dress warmly, wear the appropriate shoes, and don’t forget to pack water and snacks. “There are three start times available for this hike: 9:00am, 11:00am, and 1:00pm. Registration is FREE, but space is limited to 15 participants per hike. You can sign up for one of the three hike times here.”
Press Release: “The Prince William County Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. (PWCAC-DST) will host its 39th annual Dr. Martin Luther King Youth Oratorical Competition on Monday, January 15 at 11 a.m.”

Young Marines: “Two Young Marines units from the area were among 28 Young Marines units throughout the United States who traveled to Hawaii this past week to participate in the remembrance ceremonies of the 82nd anniversary of Pearl Harbor.”
