Plane Slides on Runway at Manassas Airport After Gear Failure—No Injuries Reported

MANASSAS, Va. – A small jet slid hundreds of feet along the runway at Manassas Regional Airport after its landing gear failed Monday afternoon, but no one was hurt.

The Bombardier CL-600 twin-engine aircraft was attempting to land around 2:20 p.m. when the gear malfunctioned, causing the plane to skid approximately 200–300 feet before coming to a stop.

Townhouse Fire Forces 7 People Out of Their Home

The home suffered moderate damage, and the building official declared it unsafe to occupy. Adjacent townhomes were spared damage. A total of five adults and two children have been displaced and are getting help from the Red Cross. Fire Marshal’s Office is still on scene investigating the cause.

Arrests Made in Woodbridge Murder Investigation; Guns and Drugs Recovered

Two 18-year-old men have been arrested in connection with the September 13 murder of a Fredericksburg man in Woodbridge. Prince William County Police say two men were taken into custody days after the deadly shooting in the 13700 block of Telegraph Road.

Investigators say the suspects were involved in a fight with the victim, 35-year-old David Kapay Kallo. When the confrontation ended and Kallo attempted to walk away, he was shot. A second man nearby was also struck by gunfire but survived, police said.

STAFFORD, Va. – Mountain View High School and Margaret Brent Elementary were placed on lockdown Friday morning after an alarm was triggered, according to the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies say there’s a large police presence in the area out of an abundance of caution, but at this time, there’s no direct threat to either school. Parents who feel the need to respond are asked to go to Margaret Brent Elementary.

Superintendents Talk Child Care, Absenteeism, and Jobs at Fredericksburg Chamber Event

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – School leaders from across the region gathered Wednesday to talk about the challenges and opportunities facing local students—and how businesses can play a bigger role in preparing the future workforce.

The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce hosted the Sept. 17 Workforce Now luncheon at the Fredericksburg Country Club, drawing about 140 attendees and 50 students from area school divisions, Germanna Community College, and the University of Mary Washington. The panel included superintendents Marci Catlett of Fredericksburg, Sarah Calveric of Caroline, Clint Mitchell of Spotsylvania, and Daniel Smith of Stafford, along with King George Deputy Superintendent Troy Wright. Dr. Pete Kelly, Dean of UMW’s College of Education, moderated the discussion.

Tow Fees in Stafford to Rise to $210 After State Code Change

STAFFORD COUNTY, Va. – Drivers in Stafford County will soon pay more if their cars are towed from private property.

The Board of Supervisors on Sept. 16 unanimously approved an ordinance aligning county towing fees with a new state law that took effect July 1. The change raises the maximum charge for private-property towing from $135 to $210.
