Dr. George Hampton has died at age 95, according to Dumfries Mayor Derrick Wood.
The Prince William County School Board renamed Godwin Middle School in Dale City after Hampton in 2016. The renaming sparked controversy.
Rappahannock Women’s Health Center: “To our valued patients, It is with a heavy heart we have to announce the closing of RWHC. Please bear with us over the next few days as we will put out more information on how to obtain your records. This was not an easy decision, and we understand for some, this will be difficult. We will do everything we can to make this a smooth transition for all. We will be open through mid-August.”
The firm did not provide a reason for the closure. It provided OB-GYN care for women at two locations, 1071 Care Way, Suite 101, in Fredericksburg, and 9701 Hospital Blvd, Suite 101, in Spotsylvania.
Prince William County Fire and Rescue Department: “Townhouse Fire, Thursday June 29, 2023, 11:17 PM.”
“Units were dispatched to the 7500 block of Bedford Road (Sudley) last evening for a townhouse fire reported by the occupants. Crews arrived on the scene with a working basement fire, and all occupants evacuated from the home. The fire was located in the basement and quickly extinguished. The home did sustain significant damage. No injuries were reported. The Building Official declared the structure was unsafe to occupy, displacing six (6) adults and two (2) children. Red Cross was on the scene to assist. The Fire Marshal’s Office determined the fire originated in the basement utility room ignited by improper use of an extension cord.”
Dr. Sebastian Gorka, a conservative radio and TV host with over 3 million listeners, came to Woodbridge to stump for Mike Van Meter, who was running for State Senate in District 33 against Jennifer Carroll Foy, vying to return to the Virginia Capitol.
Gorka said Van Meter is running in the strongly-leaning Democrat district, which includes portions part of southern Fairfax County, and Woodbridge Prince William County, in hopes to counteract ideological changes ushered in under Democrats, who controlled the House, Senate, and Governor’s office until 2021.

Sonia has developed a strong sense of devotion to the nonprofit sector as a board member and has worked with Habitat to provide financial literacy courses for families in Prince William County. This experience has provided Sonia a deep appreciation for how nonprofits seek to improve the quality of life in our region.”
Fredericksburg Nationals: “The FredNats shut out the Salem Red Sox 2-0, to snap a five-game losing streak.”
“Salem starter Noah Dean danced out of some trouble in the first two innings. The southpaw walked six batters in just 1.2 innings of work, but managed to avoid any damage.”
National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington: “Hazy skies remain across the region today, as showers move in along/west of I-81 this morning. “The law requires pornography websites to use age verification technology to more stringently determine whether a person is 18 or older to gain access to the site. The legislation passed the General Assembly on a nearly unanimous vote this March. Sen. Bill Stanley, R-Franklin, the patron of the bill, told the Mercury this March his legislation aims to address the “epidemic” of childhood exposure to pornography.”
“The Potomac Riverkeeper Network and the Natural Resources Defense Council filed suit in the U.S. District Court in Baltimore, alleging NSWC Dahlgren has discharged over 33 million pounds of munitions into the Potomac containing toxic metals, solvents, explosives and other potentially harmful constituents.”
Fredericksburg Nationals: “The Salem Red Sox recorded a 7-4 win in the series opener against the FredNats.”
“After a scoreless first inning, the Red Sox took advantage of some erratic pitching from Luke Young. He walked three of the first four batters in the top of the second, but picked up a strikeout for the second out. Young worked to a 1-1 count against Juan Chacon, who laced a bases-clearing double into the left-center field alley to put Salem ahead 3-0.”
