Rainy Day Brings Closures and Delays

Today is a rainy Friday, one of the few rainy days we’ve had in over a month. The persistent rain has led to several closures and delays in the area.

Due to the forecasted rain, the Doris E. Buffett pool in Fredericksburg will be closed today. In Manassas, Stonewall Park Pool will have a delayed opening today at 1 p.m., weather permitting.

Support for Biden Re-Election Evident Among Fairfax Democrats

Results of informal “should Joe Biden stay in the race” survey: Of the fifty-three respondents to our emails last week, 51% think Joe should stay in the race while 36% think he should withdraw. Another 13% either had a policy-related comment or offered nuanced comments.

Their call matches Suhas Subramanyam, the Democrat running for Virignia’s 10th Congressional District, which includes western Prince William, Manassas, and Manassas Park. Earlier this week, Subramanyam told Potomac Local he supports the president’s re-election bid for a second term, despite calls from some in his party to withdraw his candidacy due to cognitive issues.

Stafford history keepers to gather for summer social at historic building

The Stafford Historical Society will hold its Summer Social on Thursday, July 18, 2024, at 6:30 p.m. The event will occur at the Historic Rowser Building, 1739 Richmond Highway in Stafford.

It was initially built in 1939 by the Public Works Administration as the Stafford Training School (a term used in the South to differentiate a White high school from a Black high school). It was the only place black students could receive an education beyond the 7th grade. This building is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places and as a Virginia Landmark.

Set Sail for the Occoquan River Boat Show: July 12-14 in Woodbridge

The Occoquan River Boat Show will occur at Occoquan Harbour Marina, 13180 Marina Way in Woodbridge, from July 12 to July 14. This event will feature boats from seven manufacturers, allowing visitors to compare different models and find the right boat for their needs.

According to Capt. George Phillips of the Pirates Guide to Boating, a boater resource for the Potomac River, the idea for the Occoquan River Boat Show began when a group of local dealers and marinas recognized the potential for a dedicated event to showcase the area’s boating opportunities. With the Occoquan River’s picturesque setting and the abundance of marinas and boat dealers in Prince William County, it was clear that a boat show would be an excellent way to promote boating and connect enthusiasts with the latest models and technologies.

US Marshals Takedown Murder Suspect on Run for 7 Months

US Marshals arrested Tyus Terrell, the man wanted in connection to the murder of Quatrail Raynard Smalls of Big Stone Gap on November 14, 2023.

Police named Terrell, of Spotsylvania County, as a suspect in the case two days after the shooting. He was arrested about 2 p.m. today following a pursuit at Freedom High School in Woodbridge.
