Greetings, Prince William – Are you a teen who enjoys dogs?  Historic Manassas needs a few dog-loving volunteers to support their August 5 First Friday event, “Dog Days of Summer,” 5 pm-9 pm at Harris Pavilion in Old Town Manassas!  Volunteers aged 15+ are needed to help fill splash pools that will be used by the pooches. Volunteers must be comfortable being around dogs; wear clothes you don’t mind getting dirty.  You’ll have fun while watching the canines splash around!  Please email [email protected] for more information.

Saved Hands Foundation needs 10-12 volunteers age 18+ to support their Community Health Fair on August 13, 1 pm-3 pm at VFW Post 1503, 14631 Minnieville Road, Dale City 22193.  Duties include handing out school supplies/backpacks, operating registration tables, and crowd control.  You’ll stay busy and feel great as you support the community and help kids get a good start to the new school year!  Please email [email protected] (put “Health Fair” in the subject line) to learn how you can help.

The Stafford County Fire and Rescue Department were dispatched to put out a fire which occurred at the Carl Lewis Community Center at 154 Telegraph Road in North Stafford.

The department’s Public Information Officer Katie Brady reported that the department received a call at 3:35 p.m. regarding the blaze. Units arrived to the scene four minutes later and dealt with heavy fire coming from the community center.

(The Center Square) – Virginia recorded a budget surplus of nearly $2 billion at the close of the fiscal year, which Gov. Glenn Youngkin believes is a sign taxpayers are forced to give too much money to the government.

“While I am pleased that our additional revenue can be reinvested in Virginia, the Commonwealth’s general fund revenue surplus confirms that Virginians have been overtaxed for way too long,” Youngkin said in a statement.

Prince William police arrested a Maryland man in connection to a July 2 carjacking in Woodbridge.

Attempted Carjacking *ARREST – On July 21, the suspect sought in connection to the attempted carjacking that was reported to have occurred at the Lynwood Shopping Center located in the 14400 block of Richmond Hwy (Route 1) in Woodbridge (22191) on July 2, was arrested. While investigating the incident, officers identified the suspect as Marcus Xavier CUNNINGHAM. On July 21, following the investigation, officers obtained an arrest warrant for the accused who was served at the Prince William-Manassas Regional Adult Detention Center where he is currently incarcerated on unrelated charges.

On July 21 at 8:33 a.m., investigators with the Crash Investigation Unit responded to the area of Dumfries Rd and Country Club Dr and Route 234 in Montclair to investigate a crash.

According to police, the driver of a 2018 Ford F-150 was traveling northbound on Route 234, approaching the intersection of Country Club Drive, when the driver disregarded a red traffic signal and continued into the intersection where the vehicle struck a 2018 Lexus E300H that was within the intersection making a left turn from Country Club Drive onto Route 234.

Obtaining a cosmetology license in Virginia will likely become easier following a vote from the Board for Barbers and Cosmetology to ease the requirements to get the license.
