Good Samaritans assaulted after stopping to help crashed driver

Virginia State Police: “At 1:51 p.m. Wednesday (Aug. 9), Virginia State Police responded to a single-vehicle crash in Stafford County. A Mercedes sedan was traveling south on I-95 when it ran off the right side of the interstate near the 135-mile marker. The vehicle struck the guardrail actuator and overturned.”

“Two other motorists pulled off to the shoulder to render aid to the driver of the crashed vehicle. As they walked up to the crashed Mercedes, its driver, Kevin J. Wood, 29, of Fredericksburg, Va., exited the vehicle and assaulted them.”

Stafford County: Route 17 Northbound and Southbound: Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 7 a.m. Guardrail repair at multiple locations along Route 17 northbound and southbound in Stafford. Mobile work. Single lane closures.

Virginia Department of Virginia: “Motorists may encounter daytime delays on Route 218 (White Oak Road/Caledon Road) between Route 604 (Belle Plains Road) in Stafford County and Route 206 (Dahlgren Road) in King George County starting in August for a safety improvement project.”

“The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and contractor crews are replacing and installing approximately 100 signs and pavement safety messages over approximately 21 miles.”

Woman struck in Jiffy Lube Live parking lot, suffers serious injuries

Prince William police: “Felony Hit & Run Crash Investigation – On July 26 at 10:45 p.m, crash investigators responded to Jiffy Lube Live located at 7800 Cellar Door Dr in Bristow (20136) to investigate a hit & run crash that occurred in the parking lot.”

“The investigation revealed the victim, a 23-year-old woman, was leaving the concert and running through parking lot “F6” to her vehicle when she was struck by a white sedan. The victim was transported to an area hospital with serious injuries.”

Prince William awarded $992,000 to improve streets, sidewalks

Prince William County: “Recently, U.S. Transportation Secretary Pete Buttigieg announced a historic $800 million in grant awards for 510 projects through the new Safe Streets and Roads for All (SS4A) Grant Program, a record amount of funding to improve roads and address traffic fatalities. Prince William County Department of Transportation received $992,000 to be used by the Prince William County Government to develop a comprehensive safety action plan.”

“The competitive grant program, established by President Biden’s historic infrastructure law, provides $5 billion over five years for regional, local, and Tribal initiatives — from redesigned roads to better sidewalks and crosswalks — to prevent deaths and serious injuries on the nation’s roadways.”

I-95 FredEx E-ZPass lanes to open next month

VDOT/Transubran: “The Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and Transurban North America will partially open a 10-mile extension of the 95 Express Lanes in August to reduce congestion on the Interstate 95 corridor through Stafford County and Fredericksburg, connecting the region to Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C.”

“The extension will continue the 95 Express Lanes from the current terminus just south of Route 610 (Garrisonville Road) to near Route 17 (Warrenton Road) in Stafford County. In August, northbound I-95 through travelers approaching from the Rappahannock River area will be able to enter Express Lanes using a left ramp entrance near the Route 17 interchange.”
