Craig Meadows has come out of retirement to help right the ship.

Meadows, the second interim administrator in two years, will serve as the Stafford County Interim County Administrator starting Wednesday, April 3, 2024. He recently retired from Montgomery County, Virginia (Blacksburg-Christiansburg area), where he retired after serving as its County Administrator for 14 years.

The mother of a former student at North Stafford High School has filed a lawsuit against the county school division seeking $15 million in compensatory damages, alleging failure to protect her child.

Court documents reveal that a female student, unnamed in this story due to her status as a minor, began spreading misinformation about the plaintiff’s child in December 2022, accusing her of making racist remarks, which the plaintiff Ashley Cain denies.

Stafford County Supervisor Deuntay Diggs will hold his first town hall meeting on Wednesday, March 27, 2024, at Stafford High School.

Diggs represents the George Washington District, said he’ll be joined by elected School Board member, Susan Randall, also of George Washington, as well as residents whom Diggs appointed to several county boards and commissions.

“Students used the grant funds to purchase 9,350 pantry staple items and package spring break meal kits for families facing food insecurity in the school system. As an integral part of the project, students researched the prevalence of food insecurity in our area, concurrently orchestrating the logistics for the efficient packing of the meal boxes.”

“A total of 27 schools participated in the initiative, collectively requesting 385 meal kits. Impressively, within a mere 2.5 hours, the dedicated students successfully constructed, packed, sealed, and loaded all 385 boxes, ready for distribution to the participating schools.”

Stafford residents will have a chance to weigh in on a proposed county government budget that would see the average homeowner pay $276 in Real Estate taxes next year, amounting to an average homeowner’s $3,866 Real Estate tax bill.

Supervisors will hold a public hearing on the budget at 7 p.m. Tuesday, March 19, 2024, at the county government center, 1300 Courthouse Road, Stafford.  You can also watch the meeting here.

An outcry from families at the Stafford County School Board meeting Tuesday night, along with a letter from the Stafford County Board of Supervisors, was not enough to sway the school board to rescind its earlier vote to build elementary school No. 19 at the Brooke Point site, reports Kathy Knotts at the Fredericksburg Free Press.

“[Blue Line Solutions, of Chatanooga, Tenn.] is showing us how they work and what type of data we would get. At this point, we are just gathering information,” said Stafford Sheriff’s Major Shawn Kimmitz.

It is one of multiple firms the sheriff’s office works with as it tests new equipment. The cameras are not actively citing drivers during the demonstration phase.

Dr. Thomas W. Taylor has been named the Virginia Association of School Superintendent’s Region III Superintendent of the Year for the second time. Taylor has led the school division since December 2021 and has been its 4th superintendent in 12 years.
