Extending Metrorail to Prince William County will be the focus of a virtual meeting tonight.
The Prince William Conservation Alliance will host an online discussion about the possibility of extending the heavy-rail system, which ferries passengers in and out of Washington, D.C., south from Springfield to Woodbridge.
Class passing rates dropped from 86.3 percent to 84.8 percent in county middle schools in the second quarter. The number of middle school students that are failing two or more subjects increased from 5.2 percent in the first quarter to 6.5 percent in the second quarter.
According to Dr. Jennifer Cassata, a director and researcher of Accountability and Strategic planning for the county schools, the overall proportion of students failing two or more classes is similar to the rate during the 2019-2020 school year, which was 5.2 percent. However, the rate is significantly lower than the 2020-2021 school year, which was 17.9 percent.
On Friday, February 25, at 6:35 p.m., police went to Dale Boulevard and Ridgefield Road in Dale City to investigate a sexual assault.
A 36-year-old woman told police that she was jogging when a man grabbed her from behind. The man inappropriately touched the victim before she pushed him away, police said.
Manassas Public Schools repealed the last traces of its mask mandate that had been in effect since students returned to classes last summer.
According to school division spokeswoman Al Radford, the division no longer requires teachers, staff, bus drivers, or children riding school buses to wear face masks.
On February 25 at 4:39 a.m., officers responded to the area of the Prince William Pkwy and Dumfries Rd in Manassas (20112) to investigate a two-vehicle crash.
The investigation revealed that the driver of a 2003 Toyota Sienna was traveling north on the Prince William Parkway approaching Dumfries Road when the driver disregarded a red traffic signal and struck a 2018 Chevrolet Express van attempting to turn left onto the parkway from Dumfries Road.
Stafford County detectives found a murder suspect in South Carolina.
Twenty-five-year-old Christopher McDuffie was shot several times outside an apartment in the Garrison Woods apartment complex off Onville Road in North Stafford on the afternoon of Monday, February 21.
On Friday, Schools Superintendent Dr. LaTanya McDade announced the changes in policy at the state’s second-largest school division, ending a forced masking policy that had been in place since August. McDade’s announcement comes after the CDC revised its rules on Friday, February 26, which now recommends no masks in jurisdictions where coronavirus transmission is considered low.
According to the CDC, Prince William County has a low virus transmission rate, while Stafford County is ranked “medium” on the new three-tiered scale.

On February 23 at 8:54PM, officers responded to Uncle Julio’s located at 14900 Potomac Town Pl. in Woodbridge (22191) to investigate a larceny. An employee of the restaurant reported to police that after dining at the establishment, a group of teenaged males fled on foot to the parking lot without paying.
The minor league affiliate of the Washington Nationals in the Low-A East League moved to the city in 2019. The team played its first regular-season last year, one year later than planned, due to the coronavirus pandemic.
The team built its $35 million stadium in the Celebrate Virginia South complex, next to the city’s expo center, with financing help from the city. A public-private partnership to build a new stadium in Woodbridge, where the team had played since the early 1980s, failed to gain the support of the Prince William Board of County Supervisors in 2017.

On February 24th at 1:25 p.m. Deputy M.L. Jacobeen responded to a crash at 432 Garrisonville Road. He arrived to find a silver Nissan Altima had crashed into an unoccupied red Ford Mustang in the business parking lot, pushing the Mustang into Nara Thai Cuisine. Fortunately, there were no injuries inside the restaurant.
