First responders 7th annual appreciation breakfast award recipients

Leadership Fredericksburg graduates 16th class

The 2023 program was sponsored by Mary Washington Healthcare, Atlantic Builders, Ltd., Atlantic Union Bank., Flatter, Inc., LifeCare Medical Transports, Germanna Community College, SimVentions, and Stafford County.

At the ceremony, 2014 Leadership graduate, Joe DiStefano, was the keynote speaker sharing five lessons he learned as a leader. The 2023 Class President, Monica Hailey with Atlantic Builders, also shared a message recounting the 2023 class’s experiences.

The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce held its quarterly Member Meeting on Wednesday, March 29, at Stevenson Ridge in Spotsylvania County.

This meeting includes the annual Marketing Madness awards given to members in the categories of the best use of social media, best website, best SWAG, and best overall brand.

$230,000 grant will help grow annual intern expo

In partnership with businesses, and secondary and post-secondary schools, the funding will focus on planning and implementing Intern Expos, hosting workforce and intern workshops, and supporting workforce volunteers and Chamber staff in their efforts within the workforce development arena. The funding will be matched with in-kind and cash contributions from local partners and the FXBG Chamber.

The grant funding is a workforce development implementation grant spanning over a two-year grant cycle representing GO Virginia’s Region 6. The grant outcomes will result in up to 100 work-based learning connections and internships across our region annually, focusing on GO Virginia’s targeted industries.

Intern fair held as work-based learning picks up steam across region

CTE, or work-based learning, as it’s also known, is a hot topic in the region as public school divisions aim to place students into internships and externships at companies in the region. The practice gained steam in 2018, but it was derailed by government-ordered school building closures brought on by the coronavirus pandemic.

In Fredericksburg today, more than 500 students were invited to attend an internship expo at the city’s event center, where they could interview representatives from prospective companies looking to attract new talent. Regional school divisions, including Stafford County Public Schools and Mary Washington University, participated in the second-annual event organized by the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce.

Intern Expo scheduled for Valentine’s Day: 500 students expected

Hundreds of students seeking more experience in the business world are expected at the Fredericksburg Expo Center on Valentine’s Day.

The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce, in partnership with the University of Mary Washington, will welcome over 500 high school students to the Fredericksburg Expo Center on February 14th for the second annual Intern Expo.

Chamber of commerce gives domestic violence prevention firm $9,000

Every year, The Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce Network of Enterprising Women (CNEW) chooses a different, local nonprofit and raises money throughout the year at their quarterly events. On January 17, CNEW presented the 2022 nonprofit of the year, Empowerhouse, with a $9,000 check.

Four events took place over the past year as part of the fundraising effort: The Women’s Symposium, Fashion Show, Wine & Nine, and Annual Silent Auction and Awards are all important initiatives that help to empower and inspire women in our community. The $9,000 check presented to Empowerhouse is a testament to the work that CNEW puts in and the impact that we have in our local communities.

Kevin Dillard is the President, CEO, and Founding Partner of LifeCare Medical Transports, Inc. In this role, Kevin oversees daily operations, sets yearly goals and objectives, and builds community relationships with individuals and businesses.

Lt. Gov. Sears, Fredericksburg business community says ‘thank you’ to first responders

For the sixth time, the business community came together on August 24, 2022, at the Fredericksburg Expo Center, at 2371 Carl D. Silver Parkway, to honor and thank the region’s first responders for their contributions to public safety.

With over 300 first responders and community members attending the event, Lt. Governor Winsome Earle-Sears provided the keynote address. She told those gathered that when they see footage of people smashing windows or burning businesses in other areas–and get the feeling that the world has turned upside down–they may wonder: “Is this the country I’m fighting for, is it worth it? I’m going to tell you, it’s worth it, America is worth fighting for,” she said. “What you do, first responders is not in vain. We see it and we’re glad you’re there because when you are running toward the violence, toward the fire, and we’re running the other way.”
