Manassas City Public Schools will activate a series of new metal detectors at Osbourn High School, the city’s only high school, Monday, March 6.

Manassas will become the first school division in our region to install and activate metal detectors in schools. The school division installed Evolv Express Lane scanners, commonly used at sporting events and concerts.


A familiar face at the Prince William County Government Center will seek a seat on the county school board.

Erica Tredinnick, 36, is seeking the Republican nomination endorsement in the Brentsville District for Prince William County School Board in the 2023 general election. Adele Jackson has held the seat since 2020 and received support from the Democrats.


Prince William County is the next school division in our region to consider installing metal detectors.

The state’s second-largest school division aims to place Evolv Express Lanes or metal-detecting scanners at its high schools. If it does, the division will follow Manassas City Public Schools, which voted to install the same type of metal detector at Osbourn High School, the city’s only high school.


The Manassas City School Board is asking the city council to allow it to spend nearly $11 million on the largest office building in Manassas.

With the purchase, the city council threatens the school board to categorically fund the school division in future years if it doesn’t start constructing a new Jennie Dean Elementary School before July 2025. Historically, the city council — which funds the school system due to the school board’s lack of taxing authority — has given a lump sum of cash to pay for school operations, no questions asked.


Suparna Dutta appeared at a parent’s rights forum in Spotsylvania County just days after Virginia Senate Democrats ousted her from the Virginia Board of Education.

On February 7, 2023, Senate Democrats, including all who represent residents of Prince William County, voted to remove her from the Virginia Board of Education. Last summer, Gov. Glenn Youngkin appointed the Indian immigrant to the position to be a voice for parents.


Kindergarten registration opens March 1 for Stafford County Public Schools for the 2023-2024 school year! Parents and guardians of children who are five years old by September 30, 2023 are encouraged to complete the online registration process.

Parents and students who spoke to PLN about the situation say metal gates bar the entrances of several bathrooms throughout the school building at 839 Garrisonville Road in North Stafford.

Students and parents told PLN the majority of the school’s bathrooms are closed during a school-wide lunch hour. The hour-long lunch, which allows all students one hour to eat lunch, seek college counseling, catch up on studies, meet with teachers, or attend lunch-and-learn sessions, was instituted at the start of the current school year in August 2022 at all five county high schools.


Police announced the arrest of a suspect in connection to a bomb threat that prompted administrators to bar doors at schools in the Manassas area on January 26, 2023.

Police learned of the first bomb threat at Unity Reed High School (formerly Stonewall Jackson Senior High School) at 8820 Rixlew Lane near Manassas. While investigating the incident, officers learned about a similar threat at Osbourn High School in Manassas.


Stafford County Public Schools will replace security cameras on 85 school buses.
