Mountain View WildActs to perform ‘Les Miserables – School Edition’

The theater department of Mountain View High School (MVHS) will bring Les Miserables – School Edition to the high school stage beginning March 24.

Known as the Mountain View WildActs, the group has previously earned awards from the Virginia High School League, the Virginia Theatre Association, and the SouthEastern Theatre Conference. The 30 student performers are joined in a cross-curricular production that includes 30 crew members and 20 musicians spanning theater, band, orchestra, and fine art.

Schools approve $1.5 billion budget; 1,800 more students expected

Prince William County Public Schools approved a $1.5 billion Fiscal Year 2024 operating budget, which will take effect July 1, 2023.

The budget, dependent upon the Real Estate tax rate set by the Board of County Supervisors, is 7% larger than the previous year’s budget. Driving the higher numbers is an anticipated 1,800 more students than the previous year, 5% cost-of-living raises for teachers and substitutes, and new start-up costs for a new elementary school off Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge.

Pressure mounts for replacement school; officials make no decision

Osbourn Park alum first from Prince William to win VHSL debate

Hollins University student Ashleigh Clyde has received a commendation resolution from the Virginia House of Delegates for a historic Speech and Debate win at her previous High School. The student, also the founder of the first Speech and Debate team at Hollins University, has been recognized for her achievement and contribution to the field.

New Jennie Dean Elementary School on School Board agenda

The Manassas School Board will meet on Tuesday, March 14, to discuss the replacement of Jennie Dean Elementary School.

The school replacement has been a point of contention between the city council, which raised taxes to fund a new school several years ago only to find construction has yet to begin.

Construction on Stafford’s 18th elementary school to begin in 2023

A rebuild of Hartwood Elementary School will take a backseat to constructing the 18th elementary school in Stafford County.

Stafford County’s Board of Supervisors voted to move the construction of Stafford County’s 18th elementary school to 2023 and delay rebuilding Hartwood Elementary School until 2027.

Stafford County, Giant Foods to supply food to families for spring break

Stafford County Nutrition Services will work in collaboration with Giant Foods to supply families with groceries in anticipation of spring break. Distribution will take place at Colonial Forge High School from 3:30 to 6 p.m. on Friday, March 10. While all families are welcome to this event, supplies are limited.

Nutrition Services in conjunction with Giant Foods will supply families with groceries for spring break. Open to all.
