A majority of Democrats favor the plan, while Republicans disapproved.

About 7,300 constituents in the Coles Magisterial District, represented by Republican Yesli Vega, will move to the Occoquan District represented by Democrat Kenny Boddye.

School administrators may soon add criminal behavior to the list of responsibilities under a proposed agreement between Prince William County’s public school system and its police department.

The proposal is meant to define the government school division’s relationship with law enforcement and govern the actions of school resource officers, SROs. “Therefore, it shall be agreed that all minor criminal behavior committed by a child in the school setting will be handled by [Prince William County Public Schools] administration,” states the proposed memorandum.

[Updated December 21] A Manassas woman died after a car ran off a road, struck a tree, and caught fire.

At 2:24 a.m., investigators with the Prince William police Crash Investigation Unit went to 12500 block of Purcell Road, just outside Dale City. The driver of a 2011 Honda Accord was speeding east on Purcell Road and lost control of the vehicle, police said. The car struck a tree, and a fire consumed the vehicle.

Triggered by its police and fire departments, leaders in Prince William County will create a new policy that allows its local government employees to collectively bargain for higher wages.

Arlington, Fairfax, Loudoun counties, and Alexandria city made similar moves this year after the General Assembly voted to allow collective bargaining for local government employees, reversing the 1970’s-era ban on the practice.

As county leaders voted on a newly-proposed magisterial district map, Republicans say Democrats made the map-making process a political one designed to help a colleague.

Coles District Supervisor Yesli Vega will pick up about 2,500 new constituents who live south of Manassas, around the semi-rural Yates Ford Road area. The rural subdivision had been in the Occoquan District, represented by Kenny Boddye.

During the summer months, families flock to the 556-acre park on the banks of the Potomac River to hike, fish, picnic, and boat on the river. So many families flock to the park on weekends, the entrance is often closed to additional visitors as the park quickly fills to its occupancy limit.

[Updated 7 p.m.] Voters and elected leaders in our region woke up today with a glimpse of a possible new political reality.

According to new political maps drawn by court-appointed Special Masters, nearly all elected incumbents in Prince William and Stafford counties, Manassas, Manassas Park, and Fredericksburg cities were “re-districted” out of their seats Masters from the Democratic and Republican parties. The new maps, or similar versions of them, will likely be approved by the Virginia Supreme Court later this month.
