Call to Action: Prince William Area Continuum of Care needs donations

Greetings, Prince William – The Prince William Area Continuum of Care needs donations of $10 gift cards for the Point in Time Count (PIT) taking place January 24. PIT is a literal count of persons experiencing homelessness that occurs in January and is a requirement for agencies receiving federal funding for programs serving homeless persons. Gift cards allow surveyors to say “thank you” to people for providing their time to be surveyed and ensures they have a hot meal soon. While Dollar Tree gift cards are preferred, gift cards from Burger King, McDonalds, Subway and Taco Bell are also welcome. Gift cards should be delivered by January 23 during the day. The American Cancer Society’s Road To Recovery program urgently needs Volunteer Drivers age 18+ in Prince William County and surrounding areas to take patients to their appointments. Police said Withrow shot and killed Posey, his wife, then shot and killed himself. Posey’s death is the second homicide in Prince William County in 2024.

VRE budget approved; Saturday service, fare increase

Virginia Railway Express: “The Virginia Railway Express (VRE) fiscal year (FY) 2025 budget received final approval Thursday evening, as the second of its two parent commissions voted to adopt the budget and accompanying six-year capital improvement program (CIP).”

“VRE’s FY 2025 operating budget totals $119.9 million, which includes operations, maintenance, and existing debt service. This is an increase of $11.0 million or 10 percent over the FY 2024 operating budget. The budget includes increases to fares of 5 percent and jurisdictional contributions of 14 percent. Both take effect July 1. VRE’s last broad-based fare increase was 3 percent in FY 2020.”

OmniRide holds ‘Extended Season of Giving Food Drive’

OmniRide: “OmniRide will hold an Extended Season of Giving Food Drive January 16 – January 19 in an effort to be a good partner in service to the community. In addition to accepting non-perishable donations on the buses, the organization will be accepting non-perishables in-person at several local government locations, and monetary donations online at the organization’s website.”

“The food drive will help to replenish shelves at local food pantries – one on each side of Prince William County. ACTS is on the east end of the county in Dumfries, and in addition to providing food assistance, offers utility assistance, programs to address domestic and sexual abuse, suicide prevention, and more. SERVE is in Manassas and provides food, shelter, utility assistance, services in foster care and adoption, health and dental services, mental health services, and more.”

Prince William County, fire and rescue crews, were dispatched to the 1500 block of Constellation Drive at the Woodbridge Station Apartments after a resident found a fire on their balcony.

Basement fire displaces 5 from townhouse

A townhouse fire broke out in a neighborhood just off Cardinal Drive.

Prince William County fire and rescue crews were called Friday, January 12, 2024, at 12:25 p.m. to the 2900 block of Stockholm Way for a townhouse fire. Crews arrived to find the occupants safely out and smoke showing from the first floor.
