We’ve welcomed our newest group of newsroom interns, and I want to take a moment to introduce you to the young men and women who are working with us here at Potomac Local News.
I’ve worked with multiple interns from our area colleges and secondary schools since 2018. Each of them stepped up and became an essential part of our team while learning how to navigate the digital local news landscape, from posting content to our website and writing original news stories, all while building relationships with business owners and elected officials across all of the communities we serve.

According to sources familiar with the project, an unnamed single firm aims to build four server farms in multiple corners of the county, including the Falmouth, Griffis-Widewater, and rural George Washington magisterial districts.
Now commonplace in localities to the north, like Loudoun and Prince William counties, data centers are typically large warehouse-style buildings, with hundreds of thousands of square feet, built between 60 and 100 feet tall. They’re full of servers that power the internet and draw large amounts of electricity to power the servers and water to cool them.
Chairwoman Ann Wheeler and the Prince William County Board of County Supervisors have made a lot of news over the past three years and not the good kind.
Vote after vote, whether it’s controversial land use cases, increasing our taxes every year, meals tax, public corruption investigations, lack of disclosing data center stock, having illegal board meetings, the list goes on and on.
Members of the 2023 Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board Executive Committee were installed Friday in a brief ceremony during which outgoing Chair Margaret Franklin of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors passed the gavel to James Walkinshaw of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Walkinshaw was the VRE board’s vice chair in 2022.
“I’m excited and honored to serve as chair this year,” said Walkinshaw. “VRE is fortunate to have an Operations Board dedicated to the system’s success, talented staff committed to our mission, and loyal riders who recognize the value of the safe, convenient, and reliable service we offer. 2023 will be a pivotal year as riders continue returning to the system and we undertake the critical task of updating our long-term vision through our System Plan 2050 process.”
