(The Center Square) – Although the Virginia Department of Education unveiled new guidelines on transgender issues they say give power back to parents, enforcing those rules in school districts could be a bumpy road.
A short section of Route 1 southbound in Stafford County will be closed overnight on the evenings of Tuesday, October 25, and Wednesday, October 26. Crews are working to widen the road’s shoulders.
VDOT tells Potomac Local News that Route 1 south traffic will be closed to through traffic between the northern and southern intersections with Bells Hill Road, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, ending at 5 a.m. Thursday morning, one lane of Route 1 south will close to traffic from 5-7 a.m. Thursday, October 27.
About 1,000 students at Stafford High School fell ill.
According to Stafford County Public Schools spokeswoman Sandra Osborn, the students are out sick with absent with flu-like/gastrointestinal symptoms.
Residents in all four of Prince William County’s towns received incorrect election notices telling them to vote at the wrong polling station.
Prince William County General Voter Registrar Eric Olsen said a contractor sent the incorrect notices to about 5,300 residents in Dumfries, Haymarket, Occoquan, and Quantico. Residents in the towns of Herndon and Clifton in Fairfax County also received incorrect notices, WJLA-TV first reported.
How it started: A Fredericksburg man called 911 to summon the cops. How it ended: police arrested him after he called back.
The caller summoned Stafford County Sheriff’s deputies to Red Roof Inn, at 386 Warrenton Road, at 9:23 p.m. Thursday, October 20. He told a 911 operator that he smelled something strange in the neighborhood and wanted someone to come to check it out.
Updated 7 p.m. –– The Republican Party of Virginia filed a lawsuit against the Prince William County Elections Office.
The GOP says the county has not done its job to allow handpicked party representatives to work as poll chiefs and assistant chiefs on Election Day, November 8, 2022.
The commuter railway operations board voted today to continue the free fares, an extension of the free fare program it provided riders last month on its Fredericksburg and Manassas lines.
The railroad will again charge the full fare for those who board at stations south of Springfield. In July, VRE decided it would let all riders take its trains free while Metro closes its Blue and Yellow lines south of Reagan National Airport for rehabilitation work.
The Prince William County Planning Commission approved a location for a new elementary school in Woodbridge. Construction crews will build the on about 10 acres on the north side of Prince William Parkway near the intersection of Route 1.
The school will have three stories to accommodate 631 students. The purpose is to relieve overcrowding at several elementary schools, such as Featherstone, Kilby, and Marumsco elementary schools.
