The Board of County Supervisors has proclaimed February 28 “Montford Point Marine Day.” In doing so, the community commemorates the first African American recruits in the Marine Corps trained at the Montford Point in North Carolina.
During the early 1940s, the United States was preparing to enter World War II and needed recruits. But President Franklin D. Roosevelt faced a problem; Hiring discrimination based on race was still the norm in the defense industry.
On Wednesday, March 1, 2023, at 4:36 p.m., Prince William County fire and rescue units were dispatched to the offices of Miller Musmar CPA in the 10500 block of Crestwood Drive, near Manassas, for a report of the building on fire.
Crews arrived with smoke showing from the attic. The fire was quickly extinguished. The building sustained moderate damage. No injuries were reported.
Prince William County announced that registration for its summer camps would begin on March 7, 2023.
All children between three and 17 years old are eligible for registration.
