Adding to the excitement surrounding Huntley’s connection to Fredericksburg, Mayor Kerry P. Devine declared January 21, 2024, as “Huntley Day” in Fredericksburg. This declaration comes in recognition of Michael Huntley, the victor of season 24 of The Voice on NBC, honoring his perseverance and dedication to the musical profession. Huntley, a celebrated singer-songwriter and native son of Fredericksburg, specializes in American Blues.


According to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Corinne Geller, remarkably, the pilot, identified as 27-year-old Ahmed Awais from Florida, skillfully executed the emergency landing without any collisions with vehicles. The only reported damage was to the guardrail on the right side of the Parkway.

Fortunately, neither the pilot, co-pilot, nor any of the five passengers on board, comprising four adults and a 15-year-old male, sustained injuries in the incident. Promptly, both the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) and the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) have been notified, and an ongoing investigation is underway to determine the cause of the emergency landing.

Virginia State Police are currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Stafford County. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 16, at 1:45 a.m., on Interstate 95 at the 146-mile marker, near Garrisonville Road.

According to Virignia State Police Sgt. Brent Coffey, a 2012 Nissan Altima, driven by Lord Elsun J. Warren of Fredericksburg, Va., was heading south on I-95 when it veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with a jersey wall.


Politics

As the Virginia Presidential Primary on March 5 approaches, residents in the state can cast their votes early today, Friday, January 19, 2024. Virginia will hold a dual presidential primary this year, with the Democratic Party and the Republican Party hosting primaries on the same day.

In a dual primary system, voters can choose between voting in the Democratic Party Primary or the Republican Party Primary. While all qualified voters are eligible to participate in either primary, they cannot vote in both.

Deputies from the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office intervened in a teen suicide attempt on Wednesday afternoon.

On January 17 at 2:30 p.m., deputies responded to a distress call from a teenager contacting the suicide crisis hotline. Rushing to an undisclosed school in south Stafford, they found the juvenile hanging from playground equipment with a belt around his neck.
