“Due to anticipated winter weather, the Potomac District Community Open House will now be held virtually on Zoom,” Prince William County Potomac District Supervisor Andrea Bailey announced. “Residents who registered will receive Zoom login information ahead of the event.”

The community open house was originally scheduled to take place in person on Thursday, January 29, but county officials shifted the event online to ensure public safety while still allowing residents to hear updates on the Potomac District Strategic Plan, agency projects, and county legislative priorities.

“Town Snow Emergency Routes will go into effect at 9 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, 2026, for anticipated snow-clearing operations,” the Town of Occoquan announced. “As a result, on-street parking, including marked on-street parking spaces, is not permitted on designated snow emergency routes.”

The restriction is intended to allow crews to clear roads efficiently during the anticipated snowfall. Vehicles left on snow emergency routes may be subject to enforcement once the order takes effect.

“Volunteer Prince William is recruiting Volunteer Snow Shovelers to assist senior citizens and adults with disabilities by clearing sidewalks and driveways after snowstorms,” Prince William County Government announced. “You’ll help vulnerable residents safely access critical medical appointments, home healthcare, and enter or exit their homes.”

The service is available to senior citizens with critical medical needs, seniors receiving in-home care, seniors and adults with disabilities, and others physically unable to shovel snow. Those interested in volunteering can sign up online or by email, and residents needing snow removal for critical medical appointments can call 571-292-5316.

“Due to the potential impacts of weather conditions, Prince William County government facilities will be closed on Sunday, January 25,” Prince William County Government announced. “This includes the Landfill and Compost Facility.”

County officials advised residents who need to visit a county facility this weekend to do so on Saturday, when offices remain open.


Fredericksburg

“Micah Ministries will open an emergency snow shelter at Fredericksburg Baptist Church in the City of Fredericksburg for unhoused men and women after the community dinner on Saturday, January 24,” Stafford County Government reported. “It will remain open day and night through the storm.”

The shelter will operate throughout the duration of the winter storm to provide a safe, warm place for those without housing. Additional information is available through Micah Ministries.

“All school and non-school activities scheduled in Prince William County Public Schools or on school grounds are canceled after 8 p.m. on Saturday, January 24, and all day Sunday, January 25,” Prince William County Public Schools announced. “This includes team practices, club meetings, interscholastic and athletic contests, and community use.”

The cancellations are due to expected hazardous winter weather conditions and apply to all school-related and community activities held on PWCS property during the affected times.

“All FCPS buildings and school facilities will be closed beginning at 4:00 p.m. tomorrow, Saturday, January 24, through Sunday, January 25,” Fredericksburg City Public Schools announced. “More information regarding school on Monday will be shared as it becomes available.”

“Expect to be indoors, as people are advised to remain off the roads,” the division added, noting families should also prepare for possible power outages due to ice and downed power lines.
