On Monday, May 20, 2024, the Manassas City Council will hold a joint meeting with the Economic Development Authority (EDA) to discuss the pending purchase of the Manassas Shopping Center. The City and the EDA are entering into a cooperation agreement for the acquisition and future redevelopment of the property

Tonight’s meeting will focus on finalizing the details of this cooperation agreement, ensuring both the city and EDA are aligned on the purchase and future plans for the Manassas Shopping Center. Overall, Mathis Avenue, on which the shopping center sits, has long been slated for redevelopment.

As the busy Memorial Day travel period begins, travelers should be aware of the risk of severe weather on Thursday, May 23, and Friday, May 24. A deep upper trough tracking across Quebec will bring a series of lower amplitude waves to the Mid-Atlantic region. A slow-moving cold front is expected to push through the area from midday into the evening hours on Thursday, according to the National Weather Service.

Weather conditions will be ripe for severe thunderstorms.

The highlight of the “Greatest Half in History” was Samuel Yakulis, Jr., a 20-year-old from Stafford, who claimed victory with a time of 01:13:27. “I’ve done the five miles in recent years, but with that being discontinued, I decided to move up and give it a shot,” said Yakulis in a press release. Last year, Yakulis won the Semper 5ive with the second-fastest time in the event’s history at 26:34.

Jonathan Ladson, 32, from Woodbridge, finished just over a minute behind Yakulis with a time of 1:14:33. James Erickson, 38, from Woodberry Forest, Virginia, secured third place with a time of 1:15:55.

On Sunday, May 19, 2024, at 2:38 PM, fire units were dispatched to the 3800 block of Port Hope Point in Dumfries following a report of a townhouse fire. Crews arrived to find smoke emanating from the two-story townhouse.

The fire was located in the kitchen and extinguished. No one was home at the time of the incident.

Kaine has also co-sponsored the bipartisan Reproductive Freedom For All Act — an attempt to codify abortion protections into federal law.
