Assault & Battery on a Law Enforcement Officer [LEO] – On July 3 at 11:41PM, officers responded to Pointer Ln. near Portsmouth Rd. in Manassas (20109) to investigate an individual throwing missiles at vehicles. Upon arriving in the area, officers observed a woman, later identified as the accused, in the intersection holding a section of concrete. When officers detained the accused, she actively resisted and struck two officers before being placed inside a police vehicle. Officers determined the accused damaged multiple parked vehicles prior to their arrival on scene. No injuries were reported. Following the investigation, the accused, identified as Kimberly SIERRA-OVANDO, was arrested.

Stafford’s 4th of July Spectacular: Held at John Lee Pratt Memorial Park, this event features a variety of activities, culminating in a fireworks display at nightfall. Gates open at 5:30 p.m., and attendees can enjoy live music, food vendors, and children’s activities. Parking is available on-site.

A nearby frontal boundary will bring chances of daily showers and thunderstorms through the weekend. The cold front will move through the area on Saturday before stalling overhead, allowing precipitation chances to continue through midweek.

For the 4th of July, expect showers, thunderstorms, and hot and humid conditions. The primary threats with thunderstorms today will be damaging wind gusts and flash flooding.

On Sunday, June 30, 2024, at around 5:45 p.m., Quincy Lamar Alexander, 42, of Stafford County, accidentally shot himself in the 300 block of Lafayette Boulevard in Fredericksburg. Witnesses heard the gunshot and saw Alexander exit his vehicle and collapse. They called 911, provided first aid until EMS arrived, and transported Alexander to a nearby hospital, police report.

Fredericksburg Police found a firearm and suspected narcotics in the vehicle. The incident was determined to be an accidental discharge, injuring Alexander’s lower body. Warrants were issued for Alexander on multiple charges, including possession of a firearm and narcotics, reckless handling of a firearm, and discharging a firearm in a public place.


Prince William

The woman was in the water while a child stood on the shore and called for help. The caller told 9-1-1 operators the woman was floating out into the river, away from the shoreline. At 2:37 p.m., a fisherman picked up the woman in his boat and brought her to safety.

During the incident, the woman was accompanied by a child on the shore. The child watched as the fisherman rescued the woman from the water.


Manassas

Linda Cheeks of Prince Wiliam County has been named the Foster Parent of the Year by the Metropolitan Washington Council of Governments, which oversees 10 local jurisdictions of foster parents.

Cheeks has been a foster parent since 2010 and can’t even count the amount of children she’s had under her care since then; typically, she takes in one to two children at a time and prefers to care for teenagers. She said, in a news release from Prince William County, that she sees her foster children as family.
