Units were dispatched Saturday, April 16, at 1:08 p.m. for a reported brush fire off Aden Road on the border of Quantico Marine Corps Base. Crews arrived to find a significant brush fire burning.

According to Prince William County Fire Marshal Matt Smolsky, the fire was a continuation of a fire that started on a firing range on base that erupted near the exact location on Friday, April 15,

A 14-year-old girl was shot in the stomach at a spring carnival at a high school in Woodbridge.

At 9:22 p.m. Friday, April 15, off-duty police officers hired to patrol a carnival at Gar-Field High School at 14000 Smoketown Road heard what sounded like gunfire coming from an area near the school entrance. The sound caused carnival goers to flee.

According to police, Prince William County school Information Technology Specialist sexually assaulted multiple students while on school grounds.

On April 6, detectives with the Special Victims Bureau, in conjunction with Child Protective Services, began an investigation into an alleged sexual assault at John Jenkins Elementary School, at 4060 Prince William Parkway in Woodbridge, involving a school staff member. Police identified four victims, all 8-year-old girls, as being inappropriately touched by the accused while in his office within the school building between March and April 2022.

Senator Mark Warner (D-Va.) visited Fredericksburg as part of a week-long tour of Virginia to talk about a recently passed infrastructure bill. The Commonwealth will receive funds for transit projects.

Warner walked the recently rehabilitated Chatham Bridge to promote a bi-partisan Infrastructure Investment and Jobs Act package, which contains $537 million to repair and replace bridges in Virginia over five years. Virginia will receive $232 million for projects to improve transit from the act’s total $1.2 trillion in funds.

Virginia Gov. Glenn Youngkin signed about 700 bills impacting the economy, health care policy, law enforcement policies, taxes and various other issues.

Each bill had some level of bipartisan support, needing approval from the Republican-controlled House of Delegates and the Democratic-controlled Senate. The governor also amended more than 100 bills, which the General Assembly will need to act on. Lawmakers are also working on several other bills that have yet to reach the governor, with the most important of those being the state budget.
