Don Scoggins, a retired Woodbridge resident is one of two new appointments to the Virginia Housing Authority.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until 10 p.m. Forecasters at the National Weather Service say damaging wind gusts and large hail are the primary threats. An isolated tornado is also possible.

Their VA Refugee Student Achievement Project (VRSAP) program supports children for up to five years after arrival and assists refugee students in target areas so that they will be successful in school. Tutors assist children with tutoring, school supplies, computers, referrals for counseling, academic services, testing, and other needs.
