Fun Land of Fredericksburg opened two new rides, Patriot Plunge and The Flip Side, marking a $1 million investment into the city’s amusement park.

Both standalone “flat” rides seat 12 people, stand 40 feet tall, and serve as a new draw to the outdoor section of the park that has seen recent expansions, including Virginia’s first three-level go-kart track opened in 2019. Patriots Plunge is a drop tower attraction, while The Flip Side is a spinning pendulum.

The new tolled lanes, dubbed “FredEx,” will open to drivers later this year. Large dump trucks can enter and exit work zones during construction, traveling slower.

The Virginia Department of Transportation issued the advisory as the spring and summer travel seasons heat up. Over the winter, VDOT opened a new bridge that carries northbound I-95 drivers over the Rappahannock River

The Stafford County Government is beginning work on a $990,000 stream restoration project in St. Clair Brooks Memorial Park, located at 80 Butler Road in Falmouth. It will begin near the pedestrian bridge below the overhead power lines and meanders south toward Pratt Park.

The project will prevent pollutants from reaching the Rappahannock River and the Chesapeake Bay by restoring an unnamed 1,500-foot tributary, decreasing erosion, and promoting natural habit, a press release states. The press release adds that the effort will reduce the amount of runoff, sediment, and pollutants and make the stream more sustainable.
