Stafford extends property tax deadline to January 5, 2024

Stafford County Government: “Stafford County Board of Supervisors adopted a second Emergency Ordinance, EO23-02, on December 12, 2023, to extend zero penalties and interest through January 5, 2024. This effort was due to the financial uncertainty concerning the delayed adoption of the federal budget and the effects this may have on the residents of Stafford County. This decision will allow taxpayers more time to pay their Personal Property tax bills.”

“There is no State Code authority for the Board to waive penalties and interest, but the Board can set the amount for penalties and interest to $0 and 0%. Virginia Code sets a maximum amount of penalties and interest but no minimum. The changes cannot be applied retroactively. State Code allows an emergency ordinance to delay the penalties and interest for up to 60 days.”

Stafford Hospital re-certified COEMIG center of excellence

“The 2023 recertification maintains Dr. Thott and Dr. Yetunde Adenle’s designation and includes a new COEMIG certified physician, Dr. Trechelle Carson. COEMIG physicians must perform hundreds of minimally invasive gynecological surgeries each year, with outstanding results, measured by a quality assessment of patient safety, equipment, and reduced complications.”

Stafford County Gov’t announces Christmas, New Years office closures

Stafford County Government: “Stafford offices, departments and facilities will be closed for the Christmas holiday on Friday, December 22, 2023, and Monday, December 25, 2023. Offices will also be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024, for New Year’s Day.”

“Juvenile/Domestic Relations Court will be closed Friday, December 22, 2023, and Monday, December 25, 2023, for the Christmas holiday. Offices will also be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024, and Tuesday, January 2, 2024, for New Year’s. District and Circuit courts will be closed Friday, December 22, 2023, and Monday, December 25, 2023, for the Christmas holiday. Offices will also be closed on Monday, January 1, 2024.”

Thieves targeting Stafford Marketplace Ulta Beauty store

Stafford County Sheriff’s Office: “On December 9 at approximately 6:02 p.m. Deputy Reed responded to Ulta Beauty, located at 1150 Stafford Market Place, for a report of not one, not two, but three separate larcenies.”

“Incident one occurred on December 8 at 3:48 p.m. Video showed a black SUV park in a handicap spot. The female suspect exited the vehicle and proceeded to the fragrance area. There, she stole over $1,200 worth of items before leaving at 3:53 p.m.”

7-Eleven opens near Stafford Hospital

Stafford sheriff suggests speed camera study

Stafford County Sherrif David Decatur discussed the possibility of introducing traffic cameras and speed cameras to his deputies’ traffic enforcement toolkit.

During a meeting of the Stafford County Board of Supervisors Public Safety Committee today, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, Hartwood District Supervisor Darrell English voiced concerns brought to him by residents who say speeding is out of control along a seven-mile stretch of Route 17, from the Fauquier County line to a Walmart on Village Lakes Parkway.

Car plows into water, overturns

A car ran off Brooke Road today, Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2023, the Stafford County Sheriff reports.

Authorities closed the 900 block of the two-lane Brooke Road after the car crashed and pulled the driver to safety. They reopened the road at about 12:30 p.m.

OmniRide expands south; Offers new service to Spotsylvania via E-ZPass lanes

Fredericksburg area commuters have three more options for the trip up Interstate 95, including launching three new OmniRide Express buses to the Pentagon, Arlington, and the State Department in Washington, D.C.

The buses are fully funded by the Department of Rail and Public Transportation, and they will provide a commuting option for residents south of the newly extended I-95 Express Lanes. It’s the first time since OmniRide’s founding in 1986 that it has provided service to Spotsylvania County and southern Stafford County, bolstering the agency’s status as a regional bus operator.

“The Extension’s main roadway opened in August 2023, with the project’s full opening tonight at 10 p.m. adding more access points throughout Stafford County to bring the Express Lanes benefit to more Virginians.”

“The $670 million public-private partnership with the Virginia Department of Transportation (VDOT) and joint-venture Branch Flatiron completes the longest reversible roadway in the United States, adding ten miles to the 95 and 395 Express Lanes.”
