Fredericksburg Main Street to Host Grand Opening of Riverfront Park Ice Rink

“Celebrate the holiday season with Fredericksburg Main Street at the grand opening of the Riverfront Park Ice Rink,” Fredericksburg Main Street announced. “Established in 2013, Fredericksburg Main Street is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization dedicated to helping downtown businesses thrive by creating memorable experiences, unique opportunities, and programming that engage those who live, work, and visit downtown Fredericksburg.”

The grand opening will take place at Riverfront Park, 701 Sophia Street in Fredericksburg, hosted by Fredericksburg Main Street in partnership with the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce. The nonprofit, accredited by both Virginia Main Street and Main Street America, organizes signature local events including First Friday Sip & Stroll, Downtown Shop Crawls, and the lighting of the giant Christmas tree in Riverfront Park.

Central Rappahannock Regional Library Hosts Ninth Annual Rappahannock Writers’ Conference

“The conference will feature keynote speeches from Austin S. Camacho, author of the Hannibal Jones mystery series and the Stark & O’Brien adventure series, and New York Times-bestselling author and Emmy and Writer’s Guild of America-nominated writer-producer Tom Straw,” Central Rappahannock Regional Library announced.

The daylong event will be held Saturday, November 8, from 8:45 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., at Germanna Community College’s Fredericksburg Area Campus, Workforce and Technology Center. Sessions will include “Books and Beasties,” “Why Your Second Draft Should Be the First Time You Start to Self-Edit,” and “The Intersection of Fiction and Nonfiction—How to Blend Genres and Keep Readers Hooked.”

Hold the Phone! Cops Hit Pause on Calls for Morning Maintenance

“The Fredericksburg Police Department will have a planned outage of its administrative phone lines tomorrow, Thursday, November 6, from 6 a.m. to 8 a.m. for a system upgrade,” the City of Fredericksburg announced. “During this time, administrative phone numbers may be temporarily unavailable.”

Residents who need to report a non-emergency during the brief “phone nap” can still reach the department at 540-373-1414 or 540-834-2211. Officials emphasized that 911 emergency lines will remain fully operational during the upgrade.

Fredericksburg Voters Endorse Stability Across City Offices

Fredericksburg voters largely opted for stability Tuesday, returning familiar faces to lead the city’s law enforcement, fiscal, and education offices — while elevating a current school board member to the City Council and welcoming one new face to the dais.

Despite recent controversies surrounding school board spending and transparency, incumbents and well-known local figures prevailed across the ballot, signaling voters’ preference for continuity over change.

Fredericksburg’s annual leaf collection program is underway

“Have leaves ready by 7 a.m. on the first day of service in your section and place them at the curb, utility strip, or edge of pavement — the vacuum will not go beyond the right-of-way.”

City officials reminded residents, “Do not include branches, sticks, logs, or other debris, those piles will NOT be collected,” and noted that “our new one-person leaf truck helps make collection faster and more efficient, allowing for quicker passes through neighborhoods.”

Fredericksburg Approves Habitat for Humanity for Six Future Affordable Homes

“We are proud of this achievement and grateful to everyone who has played a part over the past few years in getting us to this point,” Jayne Johnson, Executive Director of Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity, said. “We would like to extend our heartfelt thanks to those who worked with us during this process: the City of Fredericksburg, Welford Engineering, Legacy Engineering, Frank Mills Surveyor, the GFHFH Board of Directors, the Mayfield Community leaders and neighbors, and the volunteers and donors who continued to support us through it all.”

The City of Fredericksburg’s Community Planning and Building Department has approved the Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity site plan for six new affordable homes on Davies Street. Each home will be purchased by a partner family who completes the organization’s homeownership program. Habitat will announce details about the start of construction and the homebuyer selection process at a later date.

Regionalism Matters – Energy Forum to address Virginia’s clean energy future

As the Commonwealth advances ambitious clean energy goals, the challenge lies in achieving sustainability while protecting the reliability and affordability that keep our economy strong,” the Fredericksburg Regional Chamber of Commerce announced. “The Regionalism Matters – Energy Forum: Powering Our Region Together will bring together business leaders, policymakers, and energy experts for a dynamic discussion on how to meet rising energy demands without compromising economic stability.”

The event will be held on November 12 from 8:30 to 10 a.m. at Stevenson Ridge, 6901 Meeting St, Spotsylvania. John Hewa, President & CEO of Rappahannock Electric Cooperative, will deliver the keynote address on balancing reliability, affordability, and clean energy policy. Tickets are $45. The forum will explore how collaboration and regional leadership can ensure Virginia’s energy transition supports both innovation and economic growth.

Public comment opens for regional economic development plan

“The George Washington Regional Commission (GWRC) has released the Comprehensive Economic Development Plan (CEDS) for public review and comment,” the George Washington Regional Commission announced. “Input from community members is a crucial part of developing this strategic plan. Public Comment will be available for 30 days from October 31, 2025, to November 30, 2025.”

The CEDS outlines a regional vision for economic growth, identifying development opportunities and strategies for collaboration among local jurisdictions across Planning District 16. Residents, businesses, and community organizations can submit feedback electronically, by email, or in person at a public meeting on November 24 at 5 p.m. at the GWRC office in Fredericksburg.
