FredNats to host MLB Home Run Derby X

Fredericksburg Nationals: “Major League Baseball (MLB) today announced plans to host MLB Home Run Derby X events in two Minor League Baseball stadiums in August, marking the first two activations to take place in the United States since MLB introduced Home Run Derby X last year in London, Mexico City and Seoul.”

“2009 American League All-Star and 2010 World Series Champion Nick Swisher and 2013 World Series Champion and 13-year MLB veteran Jonny Gomes will participate in the Hartford event. Gomes will be joined by a yet-to-be-named MLB legend for the event in Fredericksburg.”

Osbourn Park High School students introduce new recycling procedures

Rustic Pathways: “16-year-old Khadeejah Alsheikh and Yusur Al Ogaidi [Osbourn Park High School outside Manassas] are featured in Rustic Spirit Spotlights for their amazing impact work – Their focus is on educating the Muslim community about environmental issues and implementing recycling practices.”

“They have introduced new recycling procedures, recycling boxes and replaced disposable utensils with reusable ones at the Mosque. They have provided educational sessions to the community, particularly the youth, emphasizing the positive impacts of recycling.”

Fredericksburg to unveil highway marker honoring former slave

Fredericksburg City Government: “An Unveiling Event is being planned for the new historical highway marker commemorating the “Great Exodus from Bondage” and honoring John Washington.”

“Please join us on Wednesday, June 21 at 2:00pm. The public is invited to the ceremony which will be held at the Fredericksburg Presbyterian Church Fellowship Hall, 810 Princess Anne Street, Fredericksburg. An unveiling of the new marker on Princess Anne Street will follow the ceremony.”

BMX bikers in town this weekend

Press release: “Hundreds of professional and amateur BMX riders from across the world will descend on Woodbridge this weekend, June 9-11, for the USA BMX Battlefield Nationals.”

“The three-day event will be held at the NOVA BMX track at 7 County Complex Court in Woodbridge. Races begin at 1:30 p.m. Friday, 9 a.m. Saturday and 8 a.m. Sunday, with participants racing well into the evening. Parking is $10 per day, and fans are welcome to watch and cheer on their favorite riders as they expertly navigate jumps, twists and turns along the track.”

Prince William County Parks and Rec: “Northern Virginia’s largest waterpark, SplashDown Waterpark, will open its doors for the 2023 summer season on Friday, June 16. Waterworks Waterpark and community pools will open daily beginning June 16.”

“There were three build clinics held on March 13th, April 3rd and May 1st at the Fredericksburg Elks Lodge #875 located at 11309 Tidewater Trail, Fredericksburg, VA 22408. Parents and drivers were encouraged to attend a build clinic to allow one of our inspectors to look at the car and provide advice and to weigh their car. Inspection and Impound of the cars occurred on May 20th and 21tst at Brandonbilt, one of our greatest sponsors since coming to Stafford.”
