Virginia lawmakers killed a proposal that would allow some special education students another year of instruction because of the struggles of virtual learning caused by COVID-19.
House Bill 2277 proposed that high school students with special needs who are set to graduate in the 2021 school year and who are 22 years old after Sept. 30, 2020, be allowed to take an extra year and graduate in 2022. Students who are younger than 22 are automatically eligible for another year, according to the Virginia Department of Education.
A judge in Virginia ordered a permanent ban on accepting ballots without postmarks after Election Day.
In a consent order dated January 13, 2021, signed by Judge William W. Eldridge IV, Presiding Judge of the Frederick County Circuit Court, the Virginia Board of Elections agreed to revise their regulations to bring them into compliance with Virginia law.

The Prince William County Criminal Justice Academy Basic Law Enforcement 47th Session graduated on Friday, Dec. 18, 2020, in a modified ceremony due to the pandemic at the Police Association Hall in Manassas. This class was composed of 29 Prince William County Police officers.
The 29 men and women completed a 24-week course of training in all aspects of police work, including classes in firearms, use-of-force decision making, driver training, legal training, patrol techniques, criminal investigation, and crash investigation.

At 9:07 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, Virginia State Police responded to a crash on Route 17 near Route 301 in Caroline County.
The preliminary investigation reveals that a 2019 Volkswagen Jetta was traveling south on Route 17 when it ran off the road to the left and struck a tree.
