(The Center Square) – A Virginia Senate committee controlled by Democrats voted to reject a proposal that would have suspended the commonwealth’s entire 26.2-cent-per-gallon tax on gasoline for three months.

The Senate Finance and Appropriations Committee voted 12-3 to prevent Senate Bill 6001 from passing. Each of the committee’s Democrats and one Republican, Sen. Emmet Hanger, R-Augusta, voted against the bill. Three of the four Republicans voted to advance the legislation.

On April 28 at 5:20 p.m.,  officers went to the Broadstone at River Oaks Apartments in the 3100 block of Chesapeake Drive near Dumfries to investigate a shooting in progress.

Officers found a 22-year-old woman suffering from a gunshot wound. Rescue crews took the woman to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

Calls began coming into the Stafford County 9-1-1 emergency call center Thursday, April 28, about a social media post threatening a mass shooting in Stafford County.

According to authorities, there is no credible threat. The threat also did not indicate where or when the shooting would occur.

A jail fight resulted in many charges for several inmates.

At 9:38 p.m., April 26, deputies went to the Rappahannock Regional Jail, 1745 Richmond Highway in Stafford, for a report of an assault. The investigation revealed an inmate started an argument with two inmates, Collins Turner, 22, and Travis Ball, 32.
