Virginians who want to skip the check-in line at their next visit to the Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) are invited to schedule an appointment.
Earlier this year, DMV enhanced its operations to provide simultaneous walk-in and appointment services. Although customers are welcome to walk in at their convenience, scheduling an appointment for service saves time.
The City of Fredericksburg announced a major change to the traffic pattern on the one-way streets near James Monroe High School is nearing completion. Weather permitting, the construction project is anticipated to start in late September and is expected to be completed this fall.
Once the project is completed, the one-way streets on Fall Hill Avenue, Washington Avenue, and Maury Street in the Canal Quarter Neighborhood will be converted to two-way traffic. This work is part of the city’s Pavement Rehabilitation Program project for the Fiscal Year 2023.

Updated 6 p.m. — The cost to renovate Manassas City Hall ballooned by more than 40%.
It will cost about $13 million to overhaul the City Hall building at 9027 Center Street. The building has been emptied for most of the year so contractors can perform the work.
Mayor Derrick Wood declined an invitation from his opponent, Ebony Lofton, to participate in a debate on the issues facing Dumfries.
In an email to Lofton, Wood states his schedule for the next 55 days until the November 8 General Election is booked. Lofton proposed holding a debate a the town’s Simpson Community Center next to the town hall, at 17757 Main Street.
The Workhouse Arts Center is thrilled to announce the return of a Northern Virginia Halloween season favorite, the Workhouse Haunt, an immersive outdoor haunted trail.
This year’s haunt, “Nightmare Harvest,” will run on weekends from Saturday, October 1, through Saturday, November 5, 2022. Friday and Saturday hours are from 7 to 11 p.m., and Sunday hours are from 7 to 10 p.m.
Stafford County needs nearly 400 poll workers for the General Election on November 8.
The county has 37 polling locations, and each requires about 10 poeple to staff the polls. The polls are open from 6 a.m. to 7 p.m.
The state’s only commuter railroad warns of canceled trains on both lines, from Fredericksburg and Manassas to Washington, D.C. The lines are owned by freight railroads CSX and Norfolk Southern, respectively, and without train dispatchers monitoring the traffic on those lines, VRE trains cannot operate.
“Any labor strike would result in the immediate suspension of all Virginia Railway Express train service until a resolution is reached,” VRE penned notice to riders.

On Monday, September 12 at 10:10 a.m., a School Resource Officer assigned to the school at 15201 Neabsco Mills Road was notified by school personnel that a student with a gun was inside the school. The investigation revealed a student, identified as the accused, brought the gun to school, and displayed it to other students while in a bathroom.
The accused gave the firearm to another student before the parties left the bathroom, said police. One of the students posted a photo of the gun on social media showing the firearm on school grounds which was seen by other students.
