Company and county government leaders gathered today for a groundbreaking ceremony at 13710 Dabney Road in Woodbridge for Belmont Logistics, a planned Class A industrial complex with three buildings totaling 416,000 square feet on 37 acres. The construction represents a $110 million capital investment in e-commerce logistics infrastructure and is the only new industrial space delivering in 2024 along Northern Virginia’s I-95 corridor, a press release states.

The development will reshape an area next to Belmont Bay, an enclave at the confluence of the Potomac and Occoquan rivers, and a wildlife refuge. The industrial land includes several auto shops, an ironworks, and a towing firm.


Prince William

A Prince William County judge dropped a rape charge against a man accused of raping a 10-year-old girl in Dale City.

Prince William County Circuit Court Judge Carroll A. Weimer Jr. dropped the charge on March 6. The suspect, 40-year-old Bernabe Garcia of Woodbridge, was set to appear for a jury trial on the rape charge from March 18 to 21, 2024.

Virginia’s congressional races will soon heat up, as competitors must declare their candidacy by April 15 to make June’s primary ballot.

The seats for districts seven and 10 will be the most competitive, with Rep. Abigail Spanberger, D-7, declaring a run for governor and Rep. Jennifer Wexton, D-10, not seeking reelection due to illness.


Prince William

Flames were seen after bushes outside the Woodbridge Islamic School, at 13385 Minniveille Road, caught fire at about 8:20 p.m. It’s unclear how the fire started, and we don’t have any reports of injuries.

A county fire and rescue spokesman said they don’t know how the fire started.


Business

The Economic Development Authority of the City of Manassas (EDA) will buy a shopping center, a mainstay at 9018 Mathis Avenue, to help spur the long-planned redevelopment and revitalization of the Mathis Avenue corridor.

The purchase comes after the city announced the purchase of the former 20-acre Marsteller Middle School property at 8730 Sudley Road for $10 million, with plans to transform it into the city’s 21st public park.
