Va. Supreme Court hears argument Prince William County Supervisors violated open meeting law

The Virginia State Supreme Court heard arguments in the case of five Prince William Board of Supervisors accused of violating the state’s open meetings laws in the hours after unprecedented riots. 

Richmond attorney Patrick McSweeny argued for county residents Alan Gloss and Carol Fox. Both allege the five Democrats on the Board of County Supervisors violated the law when they attended a meeting of the county police department’s Citizen Advisory Board, which hastily gathered at noon on May 30, 2020.

Man shot during Dale City home invasion

Police tell us the shooting in Dale City we first told you about Monday afternoon happened during a home invasion.

On October 31 at 1:44 p.m., officers responded to a home in the 13400 block of Orangewood Drive in Dale City to investigate a shooting. Upon arriving, officers found a 51-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body and provided first aid until rescue personnel arrived.

Burglars hit Our Lady of Angels Catholic Church

On October 27 at 7:34 a.m., Prince William County police responded to the Our Lady of Angels Church at 13752 Marys Way in Woodbridge to investigate a burglary.

The investigation revealed several sheds and a trailer belonging to the church were burglarized sometime between 3 p.m. on October 26 and 7 a.m. on October 27. The investigation revealed entry was made into the trailer through the window, which was found damaged.

Landfill, compost facilities now closed Sundays, decals available

This is a consequence of the ongoing labor shortage – specifically for heavy equipment operators and CDL driver positions. Despite the county’s efforts to recruit and reassign employees, they do not have sufficient staff to safely operate both the Landfill and Balls Ford Road Compost facility to continue to offer Sunday dropoff.

In the meantime, the agency that manages the landfill, Prince William County Solid Waste Division, says residents can apply for decals to affix on their truck windshields for faster access to the landfill and recycling center on the days the facilities are open.

The parade will begin at 11 a.m. The parade will begin at the intersection of Prescott Avenue and Quarry Road. The parade will follow Prescott Ave around the corner onto Center Street and continue down Center Street to West Street.

Wheeler: Supreme Court case against her is ‘frivolous’ and ‘politically motivated’

Prince William County Supervisor Chair-At large Ann Wheeler, one of the county’s five top elected leaders who finds herself at the center of a Virginia State Supreme Court case tomorrow, made comments about the upcoming proceedings on Tuesday, November 1, 2022.

Potomac Local News has obtained an email in which Wheeler calls the lawsuit against her and her fellow Democrats on the Board of County Supervisors “frivolous” and “politically motivated.” It’s the first time Potomac Local News has seen a comment about this case from any of the elected defendants, despite seeking comments multiple times.

Problematic mail-in ballots to be counted in Prince William County

About 320 mail-in ballots will be scanned at the Prince William County Office of Elections following chain-of-custody concerns from elections volunteers.

The number represents about 30% of the 1,100 mail-in ballots the office has received since early voting began in September.

President Donald Trump gave an unsolicited endorsement to Yesli Vega, prompting now a response from her campaign.

Trump urged voters to elect Vega, a Republican from the Prince William Board of County Supervisors, to Virginia’s 7th Congressional District. Trump posted the endorsement onto his Truth social media platform and called her a “strong Republican voice against violent crime and all other things destroying our nation. He also wrote, “Vega is a warrior for America First,” and tied to Spanberger to voting to support President Biden’s agenda 100% of the time, despite campaigning as a moderate.

Trick-or-treat forecast: Showers after 5 p.m.

The National Weather Service states:

Halloween will bring increasing showers through the day, while becoming more widespread by the evening and into the overnight hours. Conditions remain mild for late October standards, particularly during the nighttime. Some showers linger into Tuesday but expect a greater deal of sunshine. The pattern remains mild through the remainder of the work week, with dry weather anticipated.
