The Manassas City Council will hold its annual retreat in Haymarket, keeping it local this year after holding last year’s event in Harrisonburg.
The council is expected to cover several pressing issues during the two-day meeting, including the city budget, transportation planning, economic development, updates on developing city parks, and affordable housing.
Members of the 2023 Virginia Railway Express (VRE) Operations Board Executive Committee were installed Friday in a brief ceremony during which outgoing Chair Margaret Franklin of the Prince William County Board of Supervisors passed the gavel to James Walkinshaw of the Fairfax County Board of Supervisors. Walkinshaw was the VRE board’s vice chair in 2022.
“I’m excited and honored to serve as chair this year,” said Walkinshaw. “VRE is fortunate to have an Operations Board dedicated to the system’s success, talented staff committed to our mission, and loyal riders who recognize the value of the safe, convenient, and reliable service we offer. 2023 will be a pivotal year as riders continue returning to the system and we undertake the critical task of updating our long-term vision through our System Plan 2050 process.”
Schedules for Express, Metro Express, and Local routes will change on that date. OmniRide Connect micro transit pilot program is now operating in Manassas Park. It replaces the OmniRide Local Manassas Park route. Some routes operate from the new Balls Ford Road Commuter Lot in Manassas.

At 2:44 p.m. today, January 25, 2023, Virginia State Police responded to a multi-vehicle crash northbound on I-95 at the 116-mile marker at the Caroline County and Spotsylvania County lines.
Three separate crashes involving a total of 13 vehicles were involved. Only one person was transported to the hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
Southbound Route 17 Business (Warrenton Road) in Stafford County will be reduced to a single travel lane between Heartfields Lane and Washington Street for a road maintenance project.
Work will occur during daytime hours for about two weeks, starting Tuesday, Jan. 24.
