The ramp from Interstate 66 west to Route 28 South will be closed Friday night, Feb. 24, 2023, from midnight to 4 a.m., for overhead bridge work.
Traffic will be detoured farther west to exit Route 29 (Lee Highway) Centreville, stay to the left and turn left at the traffic signal onto Route 29 North, and then follow signs to Route 28 South.
Here’s a full list of schedule changes. The biggest on the list — OmniRide Express buses in Prince Willliam and Stafford counties, with service to Washington, D.C. — will not operate today due to an “extreme” shortage of drivers.
We asked Victor Angry, chairman of the Potomac and Rappahannock Transportation Commission, which oversees the operation of OmniRide and Virginia Railway Express trains, about the strike.
Rock Hill District residents will see a wider, two-lane bridge over Aquia Creek.
The bridge carries traffic on Rock Hill Church Road, between Route 610 and Mountain View Road in Stafford County. The road links drivers to Popular Road, a connection to Route 17 and Fredericksburg.
Union workers at OmniRide have been on strike for a week.
Negotiations are ongoing, we’re told. As we reported, the strike surprised officials at OmniRide, who agreed to hike the payout to the union by 17% in the upcoming budget.

A strike at OmniRide continued on Friday and will last into the weekend, marking one week of no or limited bus service for riders who rely on the system to get to and from work or around town.
OmniRide says:
Work is underway to get the northbound and southbound Interstate 95 general-purpose lanes bridges over Powells Creek to improve safety and extend the overall life of the bridges, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
The bridges, located around mile marker 155 between the Dale City Truck-Only Safety Rest Areas and Cardinal Drive, were originally built in 1963, repaired in 1976, and widened in 1981 and 1996.
The Virginia Department of Transportation closed the Interstate 95 northbound off-ramp at the exit 136, at Centerport Parkway in Stafford County to assist emergency responders with a tractor-trailer fire.
The I-95 northbound off-ramp at exit 136 is expected to be closed for several hours.
