WOODBRIDGE, Va. — Residents, families, and community members recently gathered at Acclaim at Belmont Bay, a senior living community in Woodbridge, for a lively masquerade celebration, complete with colorful masks, festive attire, and community spirit. Guests enjoyed wine, mimosas, and chef-prepared small bites and desserts as they mingled with neighbors and team members.

Designed to bring together current residents, their families, and prospective community members, the masquerade highlighted Acclaim at Belmont Bay’s focus on creating meaningful moments through shared experiences.

The home suffered moderate damage, and the building official declared it unsafe to occupy. Adjacent townhomes were spared damage. A total of five adults and two children have been displaced and are getting help from the Red Cross. Fire Marshal’s Office is still on scene investigating the cause.

Two 18-year-old men have been arrested in connection with the September 13 murder of a Fredericksburg man in Woodbridge. Prince William County Police say two men were taken into custody days after the deadly shooting in the 13700 block of Telegraph Road.

Investigators say the suspects were involved in a fight with the victim, 35-year-old David Kapay Kallo. When the confrontation ended and Kallo attempted to walk away, he was shot. A second man nearby was also struck by gunfire but survived, police said.

Police Blotter

A man from Woodbridge faces more than a dozen charges, including aggravated sexual battery and indecent liberties, following an investigation by the Internet Crimes Against Children Task Force. The case involves incidents dating back to 2020 with a victim under the age of 13.

Police also arrested a 17-year-old male after a shooting at Bar Louie in Gainesville, where he and another man were both injured. The juvenile faces multiple serious charges, including aggravated malicious wounding and use of a firearm in a felony.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – The Prince William County Commonwealth’s Attorney’s Office said a 38-year-old cold case involving the abduction and rape of a local gas station clerk has finally been solved—thanks to cutting-edge DNA technology and years of relentless police work.

On August 21, a jury convicted Russell Marubbio, 54, of Florida, for the brutal 1987 assault that took place at a Chevron station on Jefferson Davis Highway in Woodbridge. Prosecutors say this marks the first time in U.S. legal history that rare “somatic mutations” in identical twins’ DNA were used to distinguish and convict one twin.

Updated 2:20 p.m. – A 61-year-old man died after being trapped under heavy machinery at a construction site near Prince William Parkway and Minnieville Road in Woodbridge on August 13. Emergency responders pronounced the man dead at the scene. Authorities say no foul play is suspected, and the case remains under investigation.

Police said the accident was not related to the Single Point Urban Interchange (SPUI), a significant road upgrade that is currently underway at that intersection.

School workers also reported a similar incident involving the same suspect on July 30, though it was not reported at the time. The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, about 5’7” with a thin build and medium-length shaggy black hair. He was last seen wearing dark clothing, including a hooded sweatshirt and sweatpants.

Police said two men stole shoes from the New Balance store at Potomac Mills after a struggle with employees on Monday afternoon.

Police said the suspects were spotted concealing merchandise just after noon on August 11. When confronted, they fought with staff and ran from the mall with a pair of shoes. No one was hurt. The suspects are described as Black men — one wearing a gray sweatshirt and dark shorts, the other in a blue-and-white tank top and gray shorts. A police K-9 search did not locate them.

WOODBRIDGE, Va. – The folks at Prince William County just told Potomac Local News they’ll host a September 11 remembrance ceremony next week to honor the 22 county residents killed in the 2001 terrorist attacks.

It’s happening Thursday, Sept. 11, at 9:30 a.m. at the 9/11 Liberty Memorial Fountain, right outside the county’s McCoart Government Center in Woodbridge. The event will feature the Presentation of Colors, the National Anthem, the Tolling of the Bell, remarks from County Chair Deshundra Jefferson and County Executive Christopher Shorter, a reading of victims’ names, and the playing of taps.
