Racial & Social Justice Commission shows ‘strong concern’ over planned data centers next to Manassas Battlefield

Prince William County’s Racial and Social Justice passed two resolutions outlining its concern over to plan to pave over areas next to Manassas National Battlefield to build data centers.

The Board has had a tumultuous past, rarely finding common ground. The resolutions come as the Board of County Supervisors is set to hear the case for the data center project on November 1 and must decide whether to rezone 2,100 acres next to the battlefield for Prince William Digital Gateway. These server farms would help power the internet.

Former Democratic Congresswoman Tulsi Gabbard made the trip from Hawaii to Quantico Marine Corps Base to campaign for Republican Yesli Vega.

Gabbard joined Vega on the stump at her campaign headquarters, at the Quantico Gateway office complex just outside the base Saturday, October 22, 2022. Gabbard outlined why she left the Democratic Party earlier this month and urged voters to round up their friends and head to the polls to cast their ballot for Vega.

Police search for men who shot 17-year-old boy in Lake Ridge

A 17-year-old boy was shot in Lake Ridge early Friday morning.

On October 21 at 2:31 a.m., officers initially responded to the Minnieville Road area near Tacketts Mill Drive in Lake Ridge. As officers checked the area, additional reports were received of a shooting on Tumbling Brook Lane near Wood Hollow Drive.

Three-day traffic closure on Route 1 south in Stafford starts Tuesday

A short section of Route 1 southbound in Stafford County will be closed overnight on the evenings of Tuesday, October 25, and Wednesday, October 26. Crews are working to widen the road’s shoulders.

VDOT tells Potomac Local News that Route 1 south traffic will be closed to through traffic between the northern and southern intersections with Bells Hill Road, from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m. on Tuesday and Wednesday evenings, ending at 5 a.m. Thursday morning, one lane of Route 1 south will close to traffic from 5-7 a.m. Thursday, October 27.

According to Stafford County Public Schools spokeswoman Sandra Osborn, the students are out sick with absent with flu-like/gastrointestinal symptoms.

Town residents told to go to wrong polling places, county scrambles to fix

Residents in all four of Prince William County’s towns received incorrect election notices telling them to vote at the wrong polling station.

Prince William County General Voter Registrar Eric Olsen said a contractor sent the incorrect notices to about 5,300 residents in Dumfries, Haymarket, Occoquan, and Quantico. Residents in the towns of Herndon and Clifton in Fairfax County also received incorrect notices, WJLA-TV first reported.

Man claims fowl odor, used stinky language, police said

How it started: A Fredericksburg man called 911 to summon the cops. How it ended: police arrested him after he called back.

The caller summoned Stafford County Sheriff’s deputies to Red Roof Inn, at 386 Warrenton Road, at 9:23 p.m. Thursday, October 20. He told a 911 operator that he smelled something strange in the neighborhood and wanted someone to come to check it out.

VRE free, reduced fares continue; Riders slow to return

The commuter railway operations board voted today to continue the free fares, an extension of the free fare program it provided riders last month on its Fredericksburg and Manassas lines.

The railroad will again charge the full fare for those who board at stations south of Springfield. In July, VRE decided it would let all riders take its trains free while Metro closes its Blue and Yellow lines south of Reagan National Airport for rehabilitation work.
