Stafford County firefighters responded quickly to a house fire early Sunday morning in the 200 block of Choptank Road near A.G. Wright Middle School.
Crews arrived just over five minutes after the call came in, before 5:30 a.m., and found fire coming from the side of a two-story single-family home.
Stafford County Fire and Rescue units, along with Quantico Fire & Emergency Services, responded to a structure fire Friday afternoon in the 800 block of Wind Ridge Drive in the Potomac Hills area.
Crews arrived within five minutes of the call, which came in just before 3 p.m., and found heavy smoke coming from a two-story end-unit townhome with fire spreading to the adjoining unit. Firefighters quickly worked to extinguish the flames while searching both structures. A second alarm brought additional resources to the scene.
Virginia State Police have released new details and filed charges in connection with the fiery two-vehicle crash that fully closed Interstate 95 southbound on May 14, 2026.
According to VSP Public Information Coordinator Matthew Demlein, the crash occurred at approximately 5:45 a.m. on I-95 southbound at the 138-mile marker.
“We understand that incidents like this can cause concern and anxiety for students, parents, guardians, faculty and staff,” the sheriff’s office said. “After carefully reviewing all available evidence and information, the Sheriff’s Office has found no evidence indicating these threats pose a credible risk to the school community at this time.”
“The language used in the graffiti does not reflect the values of our school community,” Stafford High Principal Chelsea Tryon wrote in a letter to families.

Stafford County residents can review plans and submit comments on a proposed widening of Leeland Road through Saturday, June 6.
Public Input Due on Stafford Road Project
After more than seven hours of public comment and deliberation that stretched past midnight, the Stafford County Board of Supervisors voted 5-2 early Wednesday morning to approve the Buc-ee’s Travel Center project at the northeast corner of Courthouse Road and Austin Ridge Drive near Interstate 95 Exit 140.
The board approved three related items — rezoning approximately 38 acres from B-2 Urban Commercial to B-1 Convenience Commercial, a conditional use permit for vehicle fuel sales and high-intensity commercial retail with a comprehensive sign plan, and vacation of about one acre of unused former Austin Ridge Drive right-of-way — shortly before 12:50 a.m. on May 20. Supervisors Pamela Yeung (Garrisonville District) and Maya P. Guy (Aquia District) cast the dissenting votes.

Five people, including an 18-year-old and four juveniles, face charges after a mob assault on another juvenile in the England Run area of Stafford County.
Deputies responded on May 8, 2026, after camera footage showed four suspects attacking the victim on May 7 around 11 a.m. The assault stemmed from a prior incident. Detectives identified the group, learned firearms were involved, and recovered a gun during a traffic stop and search. The suspects admitted to the assault and robbing the victim of a firearm. A fifth suspect who filmed the incident was later identified and charged.
