Welcome back to a Potomac Local News series, “Meet Prince William.”
We’ve started this series so Prince William County residents can get to know the important people working behind the scenes to make the county run smoothly and efficiently. This is an opportunity to learn from experts on the county. Potomac Local has asked each leader the same questions in bold, and their respective answers will be found below.
“The Prince William Ice Center will not open before 5 pm today, Tuesday, January 27th,” Prince William Ice Center posted on Facebook.
The ice rink in Woodbridge had been scheduled to open earlier in the day but will now remain closed until at least 5 p.m. today. Check the center’s social media or call ahead if you plan to visit later this evening.
Held inside Mae Merchant Hall, the venue will be transformed into a charming space with whimsical decorations and heart-shaped accents. Throughout the day, couples will participate in personalized ceremonies, from first-time vows to renewals celebrating decades of marriage.
The event, now a community tradition, draws support from local partners and small businesses to create a memorable experience for couples and their guests. Smith described the bash as “a special, elegant, and affordable way to celebrate their union together with family and friends in a welcoming and supportive environment.”
“Crews worked quickly to contain and extinguish the fire, preventing further extension,” the department stated. “No injuries were reported.”
As cold weather continues across the region, Prince William County Fire and Rescue officials are warning residents to stay off the ice on local waterways. Despite appearances, ice in the area is rarely thick or stable enough for safe recreation.
The Masroor Mosque in Prince William County welcomed Imam Salman Tariq as the new missionary for the Ahmadiyya Muslim Community, Masroor Mosque chapter. Imam Tariq brings experience from prior service in Canada, Ghana, and several U.S. states, including Missouri, Connecticut, and Maryland.
To mark the start of 2026, Imam Tariq led a special pre-dawn Tahajjud prayer, drawing more than 500 worshippers to the mosque. Men, women, and children participated in the voluntary prayers, followed by the Fajr (dawn) prayer and a sermon.
“Due to the impacts of weather conditions, Prince William County government offices and facilities will be closed on Monday, Jan. 26, 2026,” Prince William County Government announced.
The closure affects county government offices and facilities as winter weather continues to impact the region. Officials encouraged residents to use online services when possible and to check official county channels for reopening information.
The graduation ceremony was held at Grace Life Community Church in Bristow. Officials said the department continues recruiting qualified applicants as demand for trained law enforcement officers grows.
