A woman who walked into some woods following an argument with an acquaintance was shot and killed, police said.

On Friday, July 1, Prince William County detectives with the Violent Crimes Bureau identified the victim killed in the shooting in the wooded area near the 13900 block of Jefferson Davis Highway, across from Marumsco Plaza in Woodbridge earlier that morning as Claudia Beatriz Mortaya, 46.


In a surprise move, the state has provided funding earlier than expected to untangle a busy Prince William Parkway intersection.

The parade, the largest of its kind in Virginia, features multiple civic groups, children’s sports teams, businesses, and local politicians.

The two-mile parade route is Dale Boulevard, from Lindendale Road to Center Plaza. A family fun day will be held in a commuter parking lot next to the Comcast office on Gemini Way. The event is free to attend.


On Wednesday, June 29, at 1:09 a.m, officers responded to the Red Roof Inn located at 10610 Automotive Drive near Manassas to investigate a sexual assault.

The victim, a 35-year-old woman, was outside of a room at the hotel when she was approached by an unknown man who asked to use her restroom, police said. The two entered the victim’s hotel room, and while inside, the suspect held the victim down and grabbed her neck before sexually assaulting her, police said.

On June Tuesday, June 28 at 8:25 p.m. officers were called to a home in the 14700 block of Darbydale Avenue Dale City. Upon arriving at the residence, officers found a 52-year-old man suffering from stab wounds outside of the home.

Officers provided first aid to the victim until rescue personnel arrived and treated the victim at the scene for non-life-threatening injuries, police said.

This meeting will be hosted by the department’s Crime Prevention Unit, and all members of the public are welcome to attend.

The meeting is intended to be a training session that will cover situational awareness, crime reporting, home security, and watch patrol. The training would enable attendees to start watching associations in their neighborhoods.
