Longtime Arc Leader Karen Smith Dies

The Arc of Greater Prince William/INSIGHT announced the passing of its longtime Executive Director, Karen Smith. She served the organization for 58 years, shaping services for people with intellectual and developmental disabilities (ID/DD) across Prince William County.

Smith led with integrity and vision, opening the county’s first residential program for adults with ID/DD and helping build one of the area’s largest transportation fleets for those services. Her efforts also supported closing state-run institutions, allowing more community-based living. The organization, based in Woodbridge, provides residential, childcare, and support programs that touch thousands of local families.

Two Killed in High-Speed Nokesville Crash as Corvette Strikes Tree

Prince William County police were called at 12:04 p.m. to the intersection of Parkgate Drive and Old Church Road in Nokesville for reports of the crash.

Investigators determined that the driver was traveling north on Parkgate Drive, just beyond Old Church Road, at a high rate of speed when the vehicle left the roadway and collided with a tree. Both occupants were pronounced deceased at the scene.

Murder Investigation Update: Arrest Warrants Issued in Potomac Shores Shooting; Suspect at Large, Juvenile in Custody

Detectives executed a search warrant at the Gainesville home of the primary suspect, 19-year-old J’Shaun Zomari Williams, of the 14200 block of Haro Trail. Williams was not located during the attempted service of the warrants and remains at large. Police are asking the public for help in locating him.

Williams, described as a Black male, 6’1”, 175 lbs, with black hair and brown eyes, faces charges including murder, use of a firearm in the commission of a felony, discharge of a firearm into an occupied dwelling, willful discharge of a firearm in a public place, concealed carry, and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

Republican Jeannie M. LaCroix, Republican, has won the special election for the Woodbridge District seat on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors, defeating Democratic nominee Muhammed Sufiyan “Sef” Casim and write-in candidate Pamela Montgomery, Democrats, in a low-turnout contest marked by controversy and party division.

Unofficial results from the Prince William County Office of Elections show LaCroix receiving 43.73% of the vote (1,694 votes), Casim with 37.07% (1,436 votes), and write-ins (primarily for Montgomery) at 19.20% (744 votes). The total turnout reflects a divided Democratic base in a district that has historically leaned strongly Democratic.

The homicide investigation began on March 9 at approximately 5:33 p.m. when officers responded to the 1800 block of Potomac Shores Parkway (22026), an outdoor recreational area near the Shores Club in this master-planned Dumfries neighborhood.

Police say several people were playing basketball when another group arrived, leading to a confrontation that escalated into an exchange of gunfire. Everyone scattered after the shots were fired.

Prince William County voters in the Woodbridge Magisterial District head to the polls tomorrow, Tuesday, March 10, 2026, in a special election to fill a vacancy on the Prince William County Board of Supervisors.

The seat became vacant after former Woodbridge District Supervisor Margaret Franklin won a special election in January 2026 for the Virginia House of Delegates’ 23rd District. The Circuit Court ordered the special election to replace her.

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) has expanded its therapy dog program from one to five certified therapy dogs over the past year. The program provides comfort and emotional support to patients, families, and team members throughout the hospital.

National research indicates that therapy dog visits in hospitals reduce patient anxiety by an average of 34 percent during short interactions.
