Prince William County has begun hosting Fire and Life Safety Pop-Up events for residents to learn important safety precautions, and the next one is on Saturday, July 13 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at Williams Elementary School (3100 Panther Pride Drive) in Dumfries.
The Prince William County Fire & Rescue department is teaming up with the Building Code Enforcement, Emergency Management, other county agencies and community-based organizations to bring these events to residents.
OmniRide has reported ridership changes for its Express and Local bus services for May 2024.
OmniRide Express, which provides commuter bus services from Prince William, Stafford, and Spotsylvania counties to the Pentagon and Washington, D.C., saw its average daily ridership increase by less than one percent in May compared to April. This indicates a stable ridership pattern, with no significant changes observed over the month.
A man was struck and killed on the Interstate 95 E-ZPass Express Lanes this morning in Lake Ridge.
At 6:17 a.m. Tuesday (July 9, 2024), Virginia State Police responded to a crash on Interstate 95 Express Lanes at the 160 mile marker in Prince William County. At this stage of the investigation, it appears an SUV traveling north in the Express Lanes pulled off onto the right shoulder due to mechanical issues. Both the driver and a passenger exited the vehicle when a Ford F-150 pickup truck veered onto the shoulder and struck the male passenger/pedestrian and the disabled SUV. The driver of the SUV and the Ford were transported to a nearby hospital for treatment of non-life threatening injuries. The passenger of the SUV died at the scene. State police is still in the process of notifying next of kin. The crash remains under investigation and charges are pending.

Cops called to Target after woman feared she would be shot
The victim advised she and the suspect were at the Waffle House parking lot before the suspect drove them to this location. The suspect would then assault the victim and made threats towards her. The victim was able to getaway, hide, and call for help.
Updated 3:50 p.m. — Washington Gas tells us it shut off the gas to the affected area.
Based off our alert system it look like there may have been third party damage to a service/main line.
An adult and two children had to escape the fire through a window before the units arrived. The fire was extinguished quickly. The adult was transported to a nearby medical facility with a non-life-threatening injury.
The home sustained significant damage and was declared unsafe to occupy by the Town of Dumfries Building Official. The Red Cross is assisting the displaced residents, which include one adult and two children.
