“Wind Advisories are in effect from Monday morning into Monday afternoon for much of the region. Northwest winds of 20-30 mph can be expected, with gusts up to 50 mph at times. Winds subside a bit Monday night before increasing again Tuesday,” reports the National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington office.
Meanwhile, heavy rain continues to fall across the region, prompting the weather service to post a flood watch until 6 a.m. Monday, Dec. 18, 2023.
Stafford sheriff’s office: “Detectives are investigating the armed robbery of a convenience store which occurred early [Saturday, Dec. 16, 2023] in South Stafford.”
“At 2:26 a.m. Deputy S.A. Fulford responded to the 7-Eleven on Solomon Drive [near Arbys and Dunkin Donuts on Route 17 in Falmouth] for an armed robbery. The clerk reported a suspect entered the store, brandished a handgun, and stole cash and lottery tickets before fleeing on foot.”

Students at two Stafford County high schools face charges.
“Mountain View High School, 2135 Mountain View Road, 12/13, 10:30 a.m. Deputy A.L. Chaves was conducting his SRO duties when he was informed of an assault. One student assaulted another after a verbal altercation. The suspect was charged with unlawful bodily injury while the victim was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries,” reports the Stafford sheriff’s office.
“A high-impact coastal low will move into the area by this afternoon. Moderate to heavy rain is likely this evening into the overnight. Winds become increasingly gusty tonight into Mon. Out west, the Alleghenies can expect snow, heavy at times, Mon afternoon through Tue morning,” reports the National Weather Service Baltimore-Washington Office.

Rep. Abigail Spanberger (D, Va. 7th) press release: “U.S. Representative Abigail Spanberger today voted with a bipartisan majority of the U.S. House of Representatives to authorize U.S. Department of Defense funding levels, increase troop pay, and help set the nation’s defense priorities.”
“The House-passed fiscal year 2024 (FY24) National Defense Authorization Act (NDAA) includes a 5.2 percent pay increase for U.S. servicemembers. Additionally, the bill includes two Spanberger-led provisions to crack down on dangerous fentanyl trafficking by transnational criminal organizations and modernize the United States’ security classification system.”

Updated 3:30 p.m. — “At 12:20 a.m., deputies responded to a disturbance in the 2400 block of Richmond Highway (Route 1). As deputies made contact with the complainant, an adult male resident of the home brandished a rifle towards the deputies. Deputies repeatedly ordered the man to drop the weapon, but he failed to comply. Deputies fired their weapons, and the suspect was pronounced deceased at the scene,” Stafford Sheriff’s Office reports.
“There were no other injuries at the scene, and southbound Richmond Highway was closed this morning for the investigation. Deputies are on routine administrative leave while the case is investigated,” it adds.
