Visitors at Leesylvania and Mason Neck state parks in Woodbridge and Fairfax, respectively, will see the moon move across the sun at 2:02 p.m. and the moon obstructing nearly 87% of the sun’s surface by 3:20 p.m.
Visitors to Wilderness Road State Park, about seven hours from here, near the Cumberland Gap, will see 90% of the sun covered, more than any other state park.

Residents across the region are bracing for a widespread soaking as an area of low pressure moves northward from the Gulf Coast and southern Appalachians. The National Weather Service predicts a significant rainfall event beginning later today and extending into tonight, with a cold front ushering in the precipitation.
Ray Manfredi, president of Stage Door Productions, said the group’s 25th season is a milestone. The group was formed in 1999 when a handful of local actors and theater fans wanted to bring new experiences to the community. Manfredi notes that SDP is “one of the first organized community theaters in Fredericksburg and…the longest operating community theater in the …area.”
Manfredi said the heart of the theater is the community of volunteers and performers. Each season features new faces alongside returning actors. Manfredi emphasized that “community theater survives on volunteers:” the set designers, costume designers, and actors are all unpaid volunteers.

Officers responded to Aggressive Customs, a shop that wraps vehicles, located at 905 Highams Court in Woodbridge to investigate a shooting. Police said two men were involved in a verbal altercation that escalated when one of the men shot the other.

The new owners, Luke Tamer and Antonio Escamilla plan to bring “Bourbon Street” to Center Street, adding crawfish boils and an outdoor bar, the told the city government, included the restaurant announcement in its newsletter.

VDOT will activate a new traffic signal at the Veterans Health Administration clinic entrance in Spotsylvania County, near Fredericksburg.
The traffic signal is on Route 1 between the Mine Road and Market Street intersections. It will initially serve construction and employee traffic before the clinic opens.
The Prince William County School Board approved a $2 billion budget during its meeting on Wednesday, March 20, 2024. The FY 2025 budget starts July 1, 2024. Superintendent Dr. LaTanya D. McDade’s budget will give employees an average pay increase of 6%.
The division will also add 125 new teacher assistants serving students with special needs, 23 kindergarten teacher assistants, 16 reading specialists, and a stipend for Individualized Education Plans (IEP) case managers.
Just four miles from Manassas Regional Airport, the busiest General Aviation airport in Virginia, students at Unity Reed High School in Prince William County are learning the aviation maintenance trade courtesy of a donated aircraft to the school. The aircraft will allow the students to gain hands-on maintenance experience in a trade that is experiencing a critical manpower shortage nationwide.
Scott Kenney, an Aviation Maintenance teacher at Unity Reed High School and Woodbridge High School, said the aircraft is a Viking Dragonfly, a two-seater plane with a cockpit less than four feet across. Summit Helicopters, a Salem, Va.-based company, donated the aircraft. Kenney said he was “very happy” to receive the donation and that it would help enhance students’ education and interest in aviation maintenance.
