A passenger was killed early Wednesday after a vehicle left Richmond Highway in Stafford and caught fire, the Stafford County Sheriff’s Office said Thursday.
Deputies are still trying to identify the driver of a black SUV who stopped and pulled the other occupant from the burning vehicle. The passenger was pronounced dead at the scene.
A D-BAT Baseball & Softball Academy is coming to The Shops of England Run on Warrenton Road, in the large storefront next to Rappahannock Goodwill’s new store in the former Big Lots space.
Owners Carrie and Brent Curtis say the indoor academy will be more than 14,000 square feet and will include 10 batting cages, a Rawlings-sponsored pro shop, and a flex room for birthday parties or corporate events. They are aiming to open in December or January.

According to FFXnow, crossing guard services at 11 Fairfax County public high schools will be temporarily reinstated while county supervisors assess longer-term solutions for pedestrian safety. A Fairfax County Police Department spokesperson said Wednesday that police officers and crossing guards will provide traffic and crossing support at 11 high school locations that had previously been staffed. The move comes after the Board of Supervisors approved a May budget that eliminated funding for police crossing guards at high schools.
The Prince William Board of County Supervisors on Sept. 1 approved a memorandum of understanding for a “drone as first responder” pilot at Potomac Mills, allowing police to launch an aircraft from the mall when a call is dispatched instead of driving a drone to the scene.
The vote on item 6-R passed with Occoquan Supervisor Kenny Boddye and Gainesville Supervisor George Stewart abstaining. Coles Supervisor Yesli Vega, Neabsco Supervisor Victor Angry, Potomac Supervisor Andrea Bailey and Woodbridge Supervisor Jeannie LaCroix supported the drone item. A companion agreement, item 6-O, for live sharing of some Potomac Mills security-camera images, passed after the same round of questions.
