FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Virginia Community College System has appointed Dr. Van Wilson as the interim president of Germanna Community College, effective July 1, 2025. He most recently served as interim president of Brightpoint Community College in Chester, formerly John Tyler Community College.
Dr. Wilson will succeed Dr. Janet Gullickson, who announced her retirement last year and is stepping down after eight years as Germanna’s president.
DALE CITY, Va. – In honor of National Volunteer Month, Dunkin’ showed appreciation for local heroes at the Dale City Volunteer Fire Department by delivering a sweet surprise on Saturday, April 26, 2025.
From 10 to 11 a.m., firefighters at Station 13 on Hillendale Drive were treated to free coffee, donuts, and $5 Dunkin’ promo cards. The event highlighted Dunkin’s ongoing commitment to recognizing community service and supporting first responders who go above and beyond.
Known for her work advancing equity and education, Raulston helped lead the division through a period of growth, advocating for new school construction, teacher pay increases, and pre-K expansion. A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on May 9 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Manassas.

DUMFRIES, Va. – The Town of Dumfries is one step closer to transforming more than 160 acres of land into a vibrant new district along the Quantico Creek, near the Potomac River.
In a video update shared on Tuesday evening, town leaders toured the newly named Dumfries Waterfront District, formerly known as the Campbell Salvage Yard. The town council purchased the $3.9 million property, located at 17999 Possum Point Road, in January and is currently awaiting final approvals from the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency.
STAFFORD, Va. – Concerns over development, infrastructure, education, and environmental protection took center stage at a packed town hall meeting held Tuesday, April 29, at Colonial Forge High School. The meeting brought together Board of Supervisors Chair Deuntay Diggs, Supervisor Tinesha Allen, and School Board members Maureen Siegmund and Maya Guy, who answered questions from roughly 60 residents over two hours.
Residents questioned whether the project would include affordable units for public servants like teachers, nurses, and law enforcement officers. Officials responded that while Attain is aimed at attracting high-end tenants, broader affordable housing efforts are complicated by density limits and a competitive state tax credit system.
MANASSAS, Va. — A bird caused a power outage at UVA Prince William Medical Center on Tuesday, April 29, 2025, marking the second disruption to the city’s electric service in less than a week and raising new questions about the reliability and cost of Manassas’ electric utility.
City officials said the bird came into contact with utility lines near the hospital, damaging a transformer. The hospital, which has three backup power options, quickly switched to an alternate source, restoring power soon after the incident. However, the hospital later experienced a separate internal breaker trip, leaving one building without electricity for a short time.
MANASSAS, Va. — Historic Manassas Inc. is growing its farmers’ market with new programs aimed at expanding access to fresh food and supporting local businesses.
The Manassas Farmers’ Market, held Thursdays at Harris Pavilion and Saturdays at the VRE commuter lot on Prince William Street, kicked off its spring season in April. This year brings expanded community initiatives, including an increase in the SNAP Match program to $40 thanks to a larger Virginia Fresh Match grant.
OCCOQUAN, Va. — Occoquan will host a series of events this weekend aimed at connecting residents with local volunteer opportunities and celebrating the arts.
The Occoquan Volunteer Fair will take place Saturday, May 3, from 10 a.m. to noon at Town Hall. The open-house-style event will feature representatives from the town government, Visit Occoquan, and nonprofit organizations. Attendees can learn about ways to get involved in community events, environmental cleanups, historical preservation, gardening projects, and board service. SALEM, Va. – The Fredericksburg Nationals defeated the Salem Red Sox 9-5 on Tuesday night, powered by a dominant start from Bryan Polanco and a seven-run sixth inning. Polanco threw five scoreless innings at Carilion Clinic Field, allowing just one hit and striking out five, while the FredNats’ offense broke open the game in the sixth. The win marks Fredericksburg’s first road series opener victory of the season and their fourth straight win.
