MANASSAS, Va. — The Manassas City Council voted on July 28 to allocate $985,456 from the airport fund to continue the design of a new air traffic control tower at Manassas Regional Airport, bringing the city one step closer to preparing the facility for future commercial service.
According to Airport Director Juan Rivera, the funding will bring the current 45% design plan to full completion.

FREDERICKSBURG, Va. – The Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center and Chatham Manor, two of the most prominent sites within Fredericksburg and Spotsylvania National Military Park, will temporarily close for extensive upgrades starting August 4, 2025, according to the National Park Service.
The closures will allow for essential infrastructure improvements and safety upgrades. The Fredericksburg Battlefield Visitor Center will be closed for approximately six to seven months to accommodate the installation of a fire suppression system, a waterline upgrade, and an overhaul of the building’s aging electrical systems. Chatham will close for about one year for interior rehabilitation, including lead paint encapsulation, new carpet installation, and plaster repairs.
The Town of Occoquan has been awarded a $15,000 grant from the Commonwealth of Virginia to help revitalize its downtown through the creation of a new public space—Mill Street Pocket Park.
The grant, announced Friday morning by Governor Glenn Youngkin, is part of a broader $5.4 million package awarded to 30 communities across the state. Funding comes through the Virginia Main Street (VMS) program, administered by the Virginia Department of Housing and Community Development. The initiative aims to strengthen local economies by supporting the transformation of underused spaces, growing small businesses, and revitalizing commercial districts.

A 72-year-old woman was killed in a two-vehicle crash Saturday evening in Manassas. Police say the collision occurred at the intersection of Ashton Avenue and Godwin Drive just after 6 p.m.
Two people from one vehicle were hospitalized with non-life-threatening injuries, while the driver of the second vehicle—identified as Earline Steward—died at the scene. The crash involved a grey Kia Forte and a white Ford F550.

Arthur Alvin “Dale” Anderson of Haymarket, VA passed away on July 28, 2025. He lived a dignified life of hard work and service for others. He taught math for 37 years in Prince William County Schools (mostly Woodbridge Middle School), and tutored all of his children’s friends and neighbor kids for 37 years as well.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Harry Chval Anderson and Gladys Byrl Holmes Anderson. Art is survived by his oldest son, Michael Arthur Anderson and his family, Nancy Anderson, Kevin and Trevina Anderson, their children (Art’s great grandchildren) Thomas LIncoln Anderson (3) and Emma Renee Anderson (16 months). Art is also survived by his oldest daughter, Marjorie Marion McClain, her husband, Terry McClain, and their children Nicholas McClain and SaraAnn McClain; he is also survived by his youngest daughter, Kristi Beckman, her husband, Chris Beckman, and their children Abby, Alex, and Aiden Beckman.
Two inmate assaults were reported July 28 at Rappahannock Regional Jail—one involving a single victim, the other involving two. All aggressors were charged accordingly.
A man on White Pine Circle was arrested for public intoxication, destruction of property, and simple assault after deputies found him drunk and angry over a bike mishap, while another man was arrested for public intoxication on Lookout Way after being found passed out with a wine cooler in hand.
