Colonial Forge High School to host 3rd annual Community Health and Wellness Fair

This year’s fair introduces the Polar Pals Fun Run for elementary students at 10:15 a.m., with a route around the high school. The Polar Crew welcomes participants at 10 a.m.; hot chocolate is available after the run. Registration is open for those eager to join.

Attendees can enjoy activities, including giveaways, school nutrition tastings, health screenings, life-saving technique demonstrations, and interactions with local organizations and businesses. The Fair emphasizes Stafford Schools’ eight wellness areas: Occupational, Physical, Emotional, Social, Spiritual, Intellectual, Financial, and Environmental. The goal is to inspire healthy living, empower the community, and foster overall family wellness, according to the school division.

Assault at Brooke Point High School

On Thursday, January 18, 2024, at 12:30 p.m., a disturbance unfolded at Brooke Point High School, located at 1700 Courthouse Road. Deputy D.J. Taylor, fulfilling his School Resource Officer (SRO) duties, responded to the commotion caused by two students engaged in a physical altercation.

Upon arrival, school staff assisted in separating the two students involved in the fight. Investigation revealed that student one had initiated the confrontation by approaching student two with the intention of starting a fight. As the victim tried to disengage from the situation, she became the target of an assault by the aggressor.

Public opinion on Route 1 renaming revealed in poll

In a recent survey conducted by Potomac Local News, nearly 1,300 individuals shared their perspectives on the renaming of Route 1 from Jefferson Davis Highway to Richmond Highway.

The poll aimed to gauge public sentiment regarding the impact of the 2021 law, signed by former Governor Ralph Northam, which mandated the renaming of the 200-mile highway in Virginia.

Stafford County Public Schools Superintendent unveils FY25 budget proposal

The National Weather Service reports ongoing cold temperatures and snow showers, particularly along the Allegheny Front.

The atmosphere remains conducive to occasional streamers making their way east of the mountains. Currently, one such streamer has reached Fairfax County, albeit weakening. Despite this, it still holds some intensity and may drop another couple of tenths of an inch of snowfall for those under the heaviest portion. Additionally, some light snow showers continue in northeast Maryland, with another couple of tenths of an inch possible.

Tips to prevent freezing pipes amidst intense cold wave

If pipes freeze, the fire and rescue department said, first and foremost, shut off the water immediately and emphasized the importance of knowing how and where to perform this task.

If pipes remain frozen, the recommendation is to thaw them out using warm air from heaters or a hair dryer, with a caution against leaving heaters unattended. Once thawed, water can be slowly turned back on, and individuals are advised to check pipes and joints for cracks. Opening a faucet is also recommended to allow water to flow through the pipe.

Huntley Homecoming event postponed due to ‘extreme’ cold

Driver killed in North Stafford crash on I-95

Virginia State Police are currently investigating a fatal single-vehicle crash in Stafford County. The incident occurred on Tuesday, January 16, at 1:45 a.m., on Interstate 95 at the 146-mile marker, near Garrisonville Road.

According to Virignia State Police Sgt. Brent Coffey, a 2012 Nissan Altima, driven by Lord Elsun J. Warren of Fredericksburg, Va., was heading south on I-95 when it veered off the left side of the roadway and collided with a jersey wall.
