A series of disturbances at Brooke Point High School on Courthouse Road prompted a lockdown as law enforcement and school staff worked to address the situation and ensure the safety of students and staff.

The incident unfolded at 7:22 a.m. Monday, January 29, 2024, when Deputy D.J. Taylor, performing his School Resource Officer duties, was alerted to a large fight erupting in the cafeteria, according to the county’s sheriff’s office.  Additional deputies were called in to assist with crowd control as they worked alongside school staff to separate the parties involved.


Sheetz, a well-known chain of gas stations and convenience stores, is seeking approval from the Prince William Board of County Supervisors to demolish and replace one of its early locations at 4021 Prince William Parkway in Dale City.

The weather forecast from the National Weather Service indicates that an upper-level trough is moving offshore, with another one expected by Tuesday night. Blustery northwest winds today will lead to wind chills in the 20s and 30s, along with broken cloud cover. Winds will diminish tonight, allowing temperatures to drop into the 20s to around freezing.

Dry weather is expected tonight into Tuesday, but clouds will increase during the day Tuesday as a clipper system approaches from the Great Lakes. The short-term forecast for Tuesday night through Wednesday night suggests a chance a mix of rain and snow, with light accumulations.


As the Manassas City Council is fresh off its retreat to Airlie Hotel and Conference Center in Warrenton and set to begin budget talks, Manassas City Councilwoman Theresa Coates Ellis emphasized distinguishing between wants and needs when making decisions that impact the community. She stressed that council members serve as stewards of taxpayer money and must prioritize choices for the betterment of the community.

“When it comes to the budget, we have to look at wants and needs,” Coates Ellis stated. “We’re going to go through the budget highlights from last year to see where we are and where we’re going. There will be some wants and needs brought up from the departments.”

Flood Watch Issued

“A Flood Watch has been issued for a large portion of our region along and east of the Blue Ridge Mountains from Nelson Co up to southern Baltimore Co. This Flood Watch is in effect for late this evening into Sun morning. Total amounts will range from 1.50-2.00″. The National Weather Service forecast indicates that a low-pressure system will move from the lower Mississippi River Valley to the Mid-Atlantic through Sunday morning, eventually moving offshore Sunday evening,” reports the National Weather Service.


In connection with the shooting incident in the Brentwood neighborhood on January 14, 2024, Manassas City Police have arrested 33-year-old William Callaway. He was apprehended on January 25, and was found illegally carrying a concealed weapon at the time of his arrest, said police spokeswoman Alexis Williams.

Callaway is currently held without bond at the Prince William Detention Center, facing charges of Aggravated Malicious Wounding and Carrying a Concealed Weapon. This arrest follows the earlier incident where a 31-year-old male victim was shot in the leg near the intersection of Digges Road and Forum Way.


Stafford Sheriff’s office: “Who does the Daily Planet call when Superman isn’t available? The Stafford County Sheriff’s Office! A mobile health van for the Richmond-based business “Daily Planet Health Services” was recovered yesterday in Stafford County, and a suspect was arrested for the theft.”

“On January 25 at 1:04 p.m., Deputy S.C. Martin responded to the old Carlos O’Kelly’s restaurant at 2860 Richmond Highway for a possible stolen vehicle. An alert Stafford County resident had seen a social media post about the stolen van and recognized it in the parking lot. Deputy Martin located the unoccupied vehicle and called in other Super Heroes to canvas the area.”


Sentara sponsors Play4Kay Pink Game

Sentara Northern Virginia Medical Center (SNVMC) is set to sponsor the George Mason University women’s basketball Play4Kay Pink Game for the fifth consecutive year. The event, part of the #Play4Kay initiative by the Kay Yow Cancer Fund, aims to combat cancers affecting women. The GMU women’s basketball team will face Saint Joseph’s University at EagleBank Arena on Thursday, February 8, with tip-off at 7:00 p.m. Sponsored by Sentara, the game includes activities to raise awareness and celebrate female cancer survivors.
