On Sunday, April 14, 2024, a wind-driven brush fire quickly spread and burned three vehicles and two sheds in the Lake Arrowhead neighborhood.

Stafford fire and rescue: Our units responded to a brush fire along Maple Lane yesterday at approximately 1130 hours. Units found about a half acre on fire, with two small sheds and three non-functioning vehicles on fire. The fire was extinguished within 15 minutes. The fire was not exclusively wind-driven, but several factors including low humidity and dry fuels contributed to the spread. The homeowner was advised of the burn laws.

We should remain weather-aware today as the National Weather Service predicts the possibility of severe thunderstorms later today. Showers and a few thunderstorms have been drifting southeastward across the northern half of the forecast area early this morning. Although this activity is expected to weaken and dissipate prior to daybreak, clouds may linger into the first half of the morning.

I-95 Northbound and Southbound: Exit 126 (Spotsylvania): Sunday – Thursday, 9 p.m. – 5 a.m. Single lane closures on both I-95 northbound and southbound starting at 9 p.m. followed by double lane closures at 10 p.m. between mile markers 125-126. All lanes will reopen by 5 a.m. Construction of a new overpass of I-95 at Route 17 (Mills Drive).

We ask that you stay out of the area while officers speak with the resident. We believe we have the situation contained to the residence. An update will be provided when one is available.


Stafford County Public Schools press release: The Stafford County School Board adopted a $457.9M FY25 provisional operating budget during its regular meeting on Tuesday, April 9.

The provisional budget remains focused on correcting both the service and licensed staff salary scales through the Implementation of Phase I of the service scale correction, Phase III of the licensed scale correction, and correction of the instructional support scale.


Prince William County Public Schools press release: Local elected officials joined Prince William County School Board members and Superintendent of Schools Dr. LaTanya D. McDade in a ceremony to celebrate the construction of “Woodbridge Area” Elementary School. The state-of-the-art school is scheduled to open for the 2025-26 school year at the corner of Route 1 and Prince William Parkway, near Fred Lynn Middle School.
